One thing most homeowners don't think to check before storm season: where your tree's weight actually sits.
Trees aren't symmetrical. Over time, they grow toward light β which means the canopy often extends more heavily in one direction than the other. When that heavy side is leaning toward your roof, your fence, or your neighbor's property, that's where the risk lives.
It's called an unbalanced canopy, and it's one of the most common things we address during a pre-storm trim.
The fix isn't always removal. A good canopy reduction or selective trim can redistribute weight, reduce wind resistance, and keep the tree standing β while protecting what's underneath it.
If you've got a tree with a noticeable lean or a canopy that seems to favor one side, it's worth a conversation before the next storm gives you a more expensive answer.
