What if ancient cities understood something about community that we’re still trying to figure out today?
When I study ancient architecture, I don’t just see buildings. I see evidence of how people were intentionally brought together.
Courtyards, marketplaces, plazas and public spaces weren’t simply architectural features. They shaped how people gathered, exchanged ideas, built relationships and experienced everyday life.
Thousands of years later, that principle still matters:
The spaces we create influence the communities we become.
In my book, I explore what the architecture of the past can teach us about designing for people today. Because architecture has never just been about buildings. It’s about creating spaces where people can connect, belong and thrive.
Sometimes, building better communities for the future requires us to study how community was built in the past.
