Seven years later, this project still reflects what we love about design.
The upside-down tree chandelier at Eve On Adams started as an idea in our studio and became a 12-foot-wide centerpiece through collaboration with some seriously talented makers and builders at FSUโ€™s Master Craftsman Studio.

Thereโ€™s real momentum building in Tallahassee.

Last weekend, business and community leaders came together in Amelia Island for the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Annual Community Conference to share ideas, strengthen connections, and look ahead to whatโ€™s next for our region.

Weโ€™re proud to see ๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ช ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—˜๐—บ๐—ถ๐—น๐˜† ๐—˜๐—น๐˜†, ๐—ฅ๐—œ๐——, helping shape those conversations as a member of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She brings the same passion for thoughtful design and stronger communities to her Chamber leadership that she brings to our studio every day.

Congratulations to the Chamber team, Board of Directors, and everyone who helped make this yearโ€™s conference such a success!

Incredible progress at the I-95 Welcome Center for VISITFLORIDA, just north of Jacksonville, Florida.

As one of the first stops for travelers entering Florida along the East Coast, the Welcome Center will offer a memorable introduction to the Sunshine State, complete with a taste of Fresh From Florida orange juice and destination resources to help visitors plan what comes next.

What makes a successful welcome center? Flexible brochure displays that can adapt to materials of all shapes and sizes, large-format interactive displays, and spaces intentionally designed to encourage conversation, discovery, and interaction.

ALW brought a fresh perspective to the visitor experience, creating a space that celebrates the people, places, and experiences that make Florida such a special destination.

A powerful, heart pounding design to get the body moving. This space is authentic and ego-free - find your rhythm in an elevated gym meant to inspire. Show up, stay well, and leave feeling stronger every day.

Designed for the Florida State University community, the 7,100-square-foot facility transforms the old FSU Bookstore into an immersive training environment where performance, recovery, and grit are embedded in the details. Strength, HIIT, cardio, yoga spaces, recovery lab with cold plunge, sauna, and shower will be ready for members as soon as the paint dries. Grand opening slated for early 2027!

Designed to accelerate discovery, IGNITE Tallahassee's laboratories provide a flexible environment where research, entrepreneurship, and industry converge. The 40,000-square-foot facility, designed by ALW, features adaptable wet, dry, and flex laboratories supported by shared scientific infrastructure, including biosafety cabinets, chromatography and mass spectrometry systems, centrifuges, ultra-low temperature storage, and specialized analytical equipment that provide emerging companies with access to advanced research capabilities.

Located within Innovation Park, the building strengthens connections to adjacent leading research institutions while creating opportunities for collaboration across academia and industry. Every space was planned to foster the exchange of ideas, support scientific advancement, and help bring the next generation of technologies from concept to commercialization.

A year ago, Destin Todd walked through our doors not knowing exactly what to expect.

In his first year at ALW, Destin has shown what it means to show up with purpose, push the design forward, and be a true collaborator. From contributing to the Florida State University School Baseball Ballpark Improvements to advancing critical infrastructure work on the R.A. Gray Waterproofing project and helping shape public space at City Hall, his work reflects both versatility and commitment.

We're grateful to have him on our team.

Happy Anniversary, Destin.๐ŸŽ‰ Here's to everything still on the drawing board.

At the footsteps of Floridaโ€™s State Capitol, Waller Park is a powerful example of how design can reshape public space to strengthen the connection between community, culture, and civic life. Originally constructed in the 1970s, the plaza is a multi-tiered roof deck above a subterranean parking structure that had long experienced waterproofing failures, aging infrastructure, and limited accessibility between street level and the Capitol entrance above.

The redesign responds to significant changes in elevation through the addition of north and south elevator cores with elevated walkways, reconnecting the plazaโ€™s layered levels. These vertical elements echo the modernist legacy of the Capitol Complex, originally designed by Edward D. Stone, through vertically striated terracotta baguettes and integrated lighting that establish the cores as civic beacons within the landscape.

Across the plaza, paving patterns and symmetrical planting reinforce a sense of order and procession, creating a clear threshold into the public realm while guiding movement through the space.

This ambitious project gives new life to Waller Park, serving citizens and visitors as an inviting, accessible, and welcoming civic landscape at the heart of Floridaโ€™s Capitol Complex. The project frames the Capitol and establishes a defined enclosure for gathering, movement, and pause within the public realm.

This week, as Architecture Week brings focus to the role of design, especially for K-12 students, we're highlighting Griffin Middle Schoolโ€”one of Tallahasseeโ€™s most historic middle schools with institutional roots spanning more than a century.

ALW partnered with Leon County Schools to develop a long-range master plan that establishes a clear path for campus growth and renewal. Phase one of this vision introduces a new cafetorium integrated into the existing campus fabric. The cafetorium is designed as a student-centered hub that supports both daily routines and larger moments of gathering. From the welcoming entry sequence and covered walkways to the light-filled interior and integrated stage, the space is designed to adaptโ€”functioning as a dining hall, performance venue, and community space within a single, cohesive environment. The design celebrates connection and community, creating an environment that is both functional and uplifting, built to support students, faculty, and the broader school community for years to come.

Future phases will deliver a new gymnasium (currently under construction), a new classroom building, and renovations to existing facilities. Together, these improvements establish a network of dynamic, updated learning environments with strong connections across campus courtyards.
