Day 1 near Gainesville on another wetland site. We’re getting started on 616 acres of drum chopping and 17 miles of fire line.

The first chopper is on the ground and we’re making good progress. Our second chopper will be here mid week, and once both machines are running we’ll be able to cover a lot more ground.

Looking forward to getting this project moving and putting some acres behind us.

These canals had gone over 10 years without being cleaned out, and the vegetation had gotten so thick that in some areas you could barely tell there was water underneath it. All that growth was also starting to restrict the flow through the canals.

They had tried several different ways to manage it over the years but hadn’t been able to get the results they needed.

We put the Truxor in and started working our way through it, removing years of accumulated growth and getting the canals opened back up. We still have miles to do, but it’s a good start.

Definitely one of those jobs where the Truxor gets to do what it does best!

We’re spending the entire week bouncing between properties and spot treating cogongrass.

Cogongrass is one of the most aggressive invasive grasses we deal with in our area. It spreads through both seed and underground rhizomes, can quickly take over roadsides, pastures and timberland, and competes heavily with native vegetation. Once it gets established, ignoring it only makes it harder and more expensive to control later.

Cogongrass provides little nutritional value for wildlife, and as it takes over and pushes out native vegetation, it can significantly reduce the quality of wildlife habitat on your property.

The good news is it can be managed, but proper identification, herbicide selection and follow up treatments are important.

We are certified herbicide applicators in both Florida and Alabama. If you have cogongrass showing up on your property, give us a call and let’s get ahead of it before a small patch turns into a big problem.

Lily pads look great until they start taking over the pond.

When they get too thick, there are really two ways we typically deal with them: treat them with aquatic herbicide or physically remove the plants along with as much of the rhizome and root mass as possible. Just cutting the pads off at the surface usually means they’re coming right back.

Every pond is a little different, and the right approach depends on how much vegetation you have and what you want the pond to look like.

Getting another one cleaned up near Destin.

Got this little pond cleaned up and ready for what’s coming next.

A new home is going to be built right beside it, so we went in and removed the heavy vegetation that had taken over and opened the pond back up.

It’s always satisfying to see the difference on projects like this. What had become an overgrown pond is now cleaned up and ready to be a great feature right outside someone’s future home.

A little pond cleanup can make a big difference in the overall look of a property. If you have a pond that could use some attention let us know!

Got another pond taken care of in Baldwin County today between the rain storms.

This one is a good example of why you can’t always judge a pond from the bank. Looking across the surface, the water appeared pretty clean with very little vegetation showing. Underneath was a different story. Submerged vegetation had become thick enough that it was repeatedly clogging the fountain and keeping it from operating properly.

A lot of pond problems start below the surface long before they become obvious from above. Staying ahead of them not only keeps the pond looking good, but also helps protect fountains, pumps and other equipment that depend on clean, open water.
