Start-up current can be five times higher than the normal operating current. In some cases, it can be even higher, reaching up to 20 times the normal current for a very short period! This is why you should never underestimate the importance of a properly functioning motor starter to prevent damage to the electrical system, including wiring, circuit breakers, and other components.
