It's been an incredibly busy and eventful year here at Just Peachy Flower Farm, and we wanted to share what we have been up to!
First, we have been asked a lot of questions about our tuber sales plans for this coming tuber season - here goes!
- We will have a fall pre-sale (spring shipping only, no fall shipping as we will be dividing all winter) with several of the market's hottest dahlias to give you a chance to secure your tubers early. Probably towards the end of October.
- This fall we will launch of our new French and UK collections, many of which will be US first-year exclusives (Rita Shrimpton!)
- We will have multiple sale opportunities through the winter and into spring as we sprinkle new introductions in each sale
- Combined shipping across all of your orders and all sales - and free shipping for orders over $250
- More pictures and videos to show plant habit and floriferousness, and notes about their heat tolerance
These new varieties will be added to our site over the next month - http://www.justpeachyflowers.com
Last fall, we broke ground on our new farm, located in Talking Rock, GA - at the foothills of the north Georgia mountains! We spent the offseason removing trees, building the soil up from scratch, hiring new associates to help us with the farm activities, and began construction on our new barn. Rather than take it easy, we expanded our dahlia field to just under 10,000 plants, grown on a little over an acre. While building the new farm has been a test of patience and nerves, we are currently seeing the rewards as peak bloom is upon us with the arrival of cooler weather.
It certainly hasn't been easy! Later planting than we wanted due to spring rains (and an invasion of cover crop radishes - more on that next time!), new pests to learn, and a new staff forced to learn on the job were all hurdles to overcome, but we are pleased with the results all things considered. If you are a member of the Dahlia Society of Georgia, we are offering a field trip opportunity this weekend to visit the farm - next year we hope to open up the farm to the public for a proper fall tour once our facilities are further along!
We are always looking to make improvements and set a new major goal each year. Last year's focus was on increased tuber quality - one that we will aggressively pursue every year. This year's major goal is reduced mislabels. We grow close to 1000 varieties - while not all of these are for sale in any given year (we are always testing new varieties for heat tolerance, pest and disease resistance, and plant habit) we still have one of the biggest retail tuber selections in the US. The increased space at our new location, both in the field and in our tuber processing areas will help us drive better quality, along with continued upgrades to our processes and technology.
As always, we are thankful for your support and hope to share more soon!
