Got fruit trees with more fruit than you can use? Instead of letting it go to waste, the Harvest Pierce County gleaning project can harvest it for you and share with people experiencing food insecurity. Or they’ll share it with local farms for livestock feed if it’s damaged. Our son is working there as a harvest lead this summer. It’s a fabulous program to help stop food waste and food insecurity!

Rainy, foggy day in coastal Maine, ending with a thunderstorm. We ventured out to Deer Isle but couldn’t get good views of the rocky harbors. Stonington was adorable, but lots was closed due to it being Sunday. Oops! The bridge to Little Deer Isle and the causeway to Deer Isle were cool.

Day trip to Bangor, Maine. The umbrella art installation and a Pride celebration were the highlights for me. Also cool to see Stephen King’s home. It’s much like you’d expect. Along the iron fence are bats, a three-headed dragon, and a spiderweb gate.

When walking the dog this morning, I noticed these two teeny tiny pops of color through my chickadee gate in the garden. Both of these are volunteer plants from seed dropped last year, showing that nature—and flowers—provide us with unexpected gifts all the time.
