This homeowner had one request: no right angles where possible.

Not a single sharp corner in the whole yard. The steps curve. The walkway sweeps. The planting beds bend around the old oak instead of boxing it in.

The one straight line allowed? The fence. Horizontal redwood, built to frame all those curves rather than compete with them.

There’s a reason we like installing drip irrigation.

Traditional spray sprinklers lose up to 50% of the water they apply — to evaporation, wind, and runoff — before it ever reaches a root. In Southern California, that’s not just wasteful. It’s expensive.

Drip irrigation delivers water slowly and directly to the root zone of each plant. Less waste, deeper pe*******on, healthier plants, lower water bills.

More water isn't the answer in summer, deeper water is. Deep watering means longer, less frequent sessions that get moisture down to the roots instead of evaporating off the surface.

Quick guide:
🌳 Trees — slow drip at the drip line, 45–60 min every 10–14 days
🌿 Shrubs — deep soak every 5–7 days, mulch in between
🌾 Lawns — 2–3x a week, early morning
🪷 Ponds — top off mornings or evenings, 10–15% of volume max, always dechlorinated

Your landscape and water feature are one system. Treat them that way and they'll handle the heat just fine.

— Feed 2–3 small meals a day, only what they finish in ~5 minutes

— Choose quality food with real protein for better color and growth

— Trim yellowing leaves and thin aggressive plants before they take over

This is a pondless stream. The water runs down the creek bed and disappears into gravel. There’s a hidden reservoir underneath that recirculates it back up to the top. No fish, no liner, no standing water.

It’s a great option if you have kids or pets, a smaller yard, or you just don’t want pond maintenance.
