CBH Architects

CBH Architects Hidden inside every house is a design that can transform how you live. Partners Bob & Mike fuse arch In 2011, we began offering architectural services.

Located in historic downtown South Orange, CBH Architects was founded in 2009 as Barnett Design Build, a home improvement construction company. By 2013, as our design projects increased, we hung up our tool belts focusing exclusively on residential architecture. Our firm focuses on home additions and remodels/renovations of single-family, detached homes in in New Jersey’s Essex, Union, Somerset a

nd Morris counties with select projects throughout the state of NJ. We have a strong interest in historic preservation and have served on municipal historic preservation commissions and planning boards. Our process starts with zoning review and existing conditions documentation and proceeds to schematic design and master planning. Ultimately, our construction drawings (blueprints) enable competitive bidding by general contracts and municipal building permits. We engage in construction administration, project planning, interior design and product selection for select clients.

This kitchen had become the center of daily life cooking, baking, homework, gathering, and constant movement between spaces but the home no longer supported the way the family lived.

The goal was not simply to create a larger kitchen, but to rethink how the surrounding spaces connected and functioned together.

Through a thoughtful reconfiguration, the kitchen became more open to the adjacent living spaces, created better flow for everyday routines, added generous workspace and gathering areas, and strengthened the connection to the outdoors.

A meaningful transformation designed around real life.

Sunrooms have historically been used as 3-season rooms given older leaky windows and oftentimes lack of heating, cooling and adequate insulation. Remodeling these rooms can create comfortable, light-filled spaces that become favorite family gathering areas year round.

AFTER/ BEFORE

This remodeled bathroom brought us a new client who happened to see it in an open house when the house was recently sold. Seeing finished work vs. photography is oftentimes a win-win for us, our general contracts and our prospective clients.

For those who haven’t started dry January, December is a great month to empty out remining booze with family and friends. Chances are there are portions of Tia Maria, Vermouth, and various Schnapps remaining. Put a bow on a bottle and give to a passing caroler, you’ll warm their evening and clear out some much needed space in your liquor cabinet.

A bright space is made for relaxing mornings and happy moments. The dining room is bathed in warm sunlight streaming through the large windows. The scent of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the aroma of homemade pancakes create an inviting atmosphere.
