🧊🧊IT’S THAT TIME!! 🧊🧊
INFO! It’s that time of year that as homeowners we must be careful with ICE DAMS!

Give us a Call for a FreeInspection at 708-770-2035.

Ice dams on the roof can cause significant issues by blocking water drainage. This blockage can lead to water seeping into the house.
Additionally, we must keep in mind that the weight of the ice on gutters can cause gutters to fall. Therefore, you must make sure that your gutters are secured. Keep in mind to always be cautious and take necessary precautions when inspecting your own roof during winter months to avoid falls.
Below is a useful info from Weather.gov that provides insight on how an Ice Damn forms.

❄️As winter weather sets in, it’s important to remember how snow can impact your roof—especially if it’s older or already showing signs of damage. Heavy snow accumulation can lead to serious issues like:

▪︎Increased Weight:
Snow can add a significant amount of weight to your roof. If your roof isn’t in good condition, it may struggle to bear the load, leading to potential sagging or even collapse.

▪︎Ice Dams:
As snow melts and refreezes at the eaves, it can create ice dams that prevent proper drainage. This can cause water to back up and seep into your home, resulting in leaks and water damage.

▪︎Hidden Damage:
Snow can hide existing problems with your roof. Cracked shingles or gaps can let water in, and the extra weight could exacerbate these issues, leading to costly repairs.

▪︎Prevention is Key:
It’s essential to inspect your roof before the snow falls. If you notice any signs of wear or damage, consider reaching out to a roofing professional to assess and address the situation.

Winterize Your House: A Holiday Checklist for Homeowners🎄

As the holiday season approaches, it's easy to get caught up in decorations and gatherings, but don’t forget about your home, especially your roof! Winter weather can affect your home's integrity, so here’s a quick checklist to help you winterize your property and protect your home this season.

1. Inspect Your Roof
Check for damaged, missing, or curled shingles and examine flashing around chimneys and vents. If needed, hire a professional for a thorough inspection.

2. Clean Gutters and Downspouts
Remove leaves and debris to prevent ice dams that can cause leaks. Ensure water drains freely away from your foundation.

3. Check Insulation and Ventilation
Proper insulation and ventilation prevent ice buildup. Ensure your attic is well-insulated and vents are unobstructed.

4. Trim Overhanging Branches
Cut back any branches near your roof to reduce the risk of damage during storms.

5. Seal Gaps and Cracks
Inspect and seal any gaps around vents, chimneys, or skylights to prevent cold air and moisture from entering.

6. Prepare for Snow Removal
If heavy snow is common in your area, be ready to remove it from your roof using a rake, avoiding climbing whenever possible.

7. Plan for Holiday Safety
When hanging lights, use clips that won’t damage your roof and take safety precautions.

With a little effort now, you can enjoy the festivities worry-free! Call us if you have questions or need help!

Protect Your Home from the Chill!
Here are three essential ways to prevent damage to your property during extremely cold weather:

1. Insulate and Seal
Make sure your home is well-insulated. Check for drafts around windows and doors and seal any gaps with weather stripping or caulk. Proper insulation keeps your home warm and prevents pipes from freezing.

2. Winterize Your Exterior
Clear gutters and downspouts to prevent ice dams from forming. Disconnect and drain garden hoses and store them away to protect faucets and prevent water buildup that can freeze.

3. Heat Your Spaces
Keep your thermostat at a consistent temperature, even when you’re not home. This helps prevent pipes from freezing. Also, consider allowing faucets to drip slightly during extreme cold; running water is less likely to freeze!
