Hurricane season is here. This is when you find out what your shed is made of.
Every summer we hear from homeowners after a storm. The roof lifted. The door blew in. The siding buckled. In most cases the shed came off a flatbed, built to standard dimensions on a factory floor, with no consideration for the wind exposure or soil conditions of a specific Florida backyard.

A shed that wasn't built for this climate doesn't get stronger over time.

Here's what goes into every Quality Art Sheds build before a single piece of siding goes on.

✔️ Hurricane straps set at every rafter connection.
✔️ Architectural shingles rated for 130 mph wind loads, the same standard as your home's roof.
✔️ A foundation matched to your actual soil, not a generic block setup dropped wherever the delivery crew decided.

We're still taking on new builds. Permitting takes time, so the sooner you reach out the better shape you'll be in before the season gets going.

Before you call a single shed company, there are three things most Florida homeowners get wrong. Size, permits, and foundation.

Not because they're careless. Because nobody lays it out clearly before the sales conversation starts.

Carlos Lebron has been building sheds in Florida since 1991. He and his wife built Quality Art Sheds from the ground up, and one thing they kept hearing after every build was some version of "I wish I'd known that sooner."
So they put it in a free kit.

Permit limits broken down by county. Foundation options based on what your yard actually looks like. A space planner that matches what you're storing to the right size so you don't build twice. And a breakdown of what every Quality Art Sheds build includes that most companies charge extra for or skip entirely.

There's a big difference between a shed that was delivered to your yard and one that was built in it.

Most pre-built sheds come off a flatbed, framed in a warehouse, loaded in sections, and assembled in place. They're designed to fit a standard site. Your yard isn't standard.

Here's how we do it instead:

The framing. We build from the ground up, on your property. OSB sheathing, proper spacing, plywood subfloor, every structural decision is made for your specific lot and soil.

The build is in progress. No pre-cut panels. The framing is set with hurricane straps at every rafter connection before siding or roofing goes on.

Built to code. Architectural shingles rated for 130 mph Florida wind loads. Every build is permitted and inspected through your county.

The finished product. A structure that looks like it belongs on your property, and holds up like it was built for where you live.
If you've been comparing shed options and wondering why the prices vary, this is usually the reason. The process matters.

Most sheds come in whatever color the manufacturer decided on. Tan, gray, maybe a dark brown if you're lucky. You pick the size and that's about it.

We do it differently. Every shed we build gets painted to what the homeowner actually wants. That could be a color you already love, a trim color from your house, something you saw in a magazine. If you can describe it or show us a photo, we can match it.

This one came out a really nice blue. Concrete block foundation, ramp built right into it. Sits in the backyard like it was always supposed to be there.

A shed that looks good doesn't cost more to build. It just takes the right person willing to do it right.

Florida isn't a forgiving climate for a structure that was built somewhere else and assembled on your lawn. The humidity gets in. The ground moves. Storm season shows up every year without fail. A shed that wasn't engineered for this is going to let you know eventually, usually right when you need it most.

What you're looking at here is a Quality Art Shed mid-build. Framing, rafter spacing, plywood subfloor, windows set into the structure from day one. Every board goes up on your property, matched to your yard, built to Florida wind code.

Gray board-and-batten siding. Dark shutters. Transom window above the door. Architectural shingles matched to the home's roofline. Every detail was thought through before the first board went up.

It's also built for Central Florida weather. Pressure-treated framing. Hurricane straps at every rafter connection. Foundation set to the actual soil conditions on that property. Permitted and inspected through the county.

One of our recent clients described the experience this way: "Carlos and Israel did a spectacular job. They were meticulous. Once the shed was completed, they cleaned up the entire area perfectly. They are great people who have a passion for what they do."

That's what we want every build to feel like, from the first call to the final walkthrough.

If you've been thinking about adding a structure to your backyard, we'd love to talk through what that looks like for your yard specifically.

Most people pick a spot for their shed based on what's convenient. It's worth taking a few extra minutes to think it through.

In Florida, drainage is the first thing to look at. If an area in your yard holds water after a storm, that's not a good spot for a shed. Moisture sitting under or around the base is one of the main reasons sheds deteriorate faster than they should.

You also want the ground to be as level as possible. An uneven base puts stress on the structure over time and makes the whole thing harder to anchor properly.

A few other things to check: keep it away from large trees if you can, make sure you can access all four sides for maintenance, and think about whether it blocks anything in your yard you use regularly.

Getting the spot right before anything goes up makes everything else easier.

Most people don't think about their shed until after a storm.

Then they're outside looking at a collapsed roof, warped walls, or a structure that shifted off its base. And hurricane season just started.

A shed that wasn't built with pressure-treated materials, proper anchoring, and wind-rated shingles isn't going to hold up. Florida storms don't give a lot of warning and they don't go easy on structures that weren't built for them.

Every shed we build is anchored for Florida wind codes, covered with architectural shingles rated for high wind resistance, and built on-site with handcrafted wood construction.

Hurricane season starts June 1st. Don't wait for the season to remind you.

Where does the AC unit go? Is there a dedicated spot for a workbench or do you end up cramming one in later? Are the walls set up to hold shelving or pegboards or are they just walls?

In Florida especially, these things matter. A shed without a plan for cooling becomes a room you avoid for half the year. A shed without a work surface becomes storage by default, even if that wasn't the plan.

Before you build, think through how you want to use the space. The inside is a lot easier to get right from the start than to fix later.
