The Lowcountry light shifts at the end of August. The heat holds but something in the quality of the evening changes — and the homes designed for all twelve months of Sullivan's Island show what they are made of in this season.

𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 was designed in-house by our architect Anita King with that kind of year-round living in mind. Anne Williams brought an interior design discipline that carries warmth through every season without depending on any one of them — material choices and a color palette that hold as the light shifts from midsummer to fall. Glen Gardner's landscape holds the connection between the home and the island setting. The Euro-Wall system opens the home fully to the outdoors — drawing in the evening light and the landscape when the season allows, and closing completely when it doesn't.

The back porch at Wild Turkey Way was designed for the way people actually gather — not just for how it photographs.

Jason walks through the full outdoor entertaining space: the fireplace built into the structure, the outdoor grill and ventilation, the dual swing door, and the sliding bar window that opens the entire back of the home to the porch when you want it to.

Every one of those features was a design decision made early — because outdoor spaces that work for entertaining are planned from the beginning, not added at the end.

There is a version of waterfront living that looks impressive in photographs but is exhausting to actually live in — too much glass, too much exposure, no sense of shelter from the landscape it is trying to connect to.

𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 in Mt. Pleasant is the other version.

Designed by 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗠. 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘇𝗮𝗰 with interiors by 𝗖𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗵, the home was built around a relationship with the water that is present in every room — not just the ones that face it directly. The sightlines, the material choices, the proportions of the interior spaces — all of it responds to the specific quality of this waterfront in Mt. Pleasant. 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗻𝗲𝗿'𝘀 landscape extends the home into its setting rather than separating it from the water. Margaret Wright photographed the finished project.

Late August on the Lowcountry waterfront has a character that is distinct from the height of summer — the light softens, the pace changes, and the homes that were designed for all of it rather than one season start to show that quality clearly.

Harbor Home is one of those homes.

Late summer on Isle of Palms is when a home designed for real coastal life shows what it is.

𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄 was designed in-house by our architect 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 with that season in mind — outdoor spaces that gather naturally, interiors by 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 + 𝗣𝗼𝗽 that carry the warmth of August without competing with the landscape, and a landscape composition by 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗻 that holds the whole property together as a single idea. This is the design-build model working as intended. Anita King is on our team — which means architecture and construction are not separate conversations.
