Top 3 things a homeowner should know about their plumbing!
1: Find your main water shutoff, and know how to use it. This can mean the difference between a little bit of cleanup or a big problem. If this valve is stuck or doesn’t operate easily, you may want to consider having it looked at before you find yourself needing to use it.
2: Know where your gas meter is, and be prepared to be able to turn off the shutoff valve in an emergency. This valve should only ever be turned by a professional, so don’t go testing it just to see if it works or anything like that. This is something that you should only turn off yourself in the event of an emergency, and you should never turn it back on by yourself. Gas is not something you should take risks with.
3: Know where your clean outs are for your drain lines! This is critical to being able to get your system flowing again in the event of a clog. These can sometimes be hard to find, so best to spend the time finding it now versus when you have a problem! If you can’t find your clean outs, we have cameras and locating equipment we can use to figure it out. It’s best to know where these are before you have a clog, because our camera and locating equipment is not always useful when your line is completely stopped up.
These are just a few things you should know about the plumbing in your home, but if you had to pick 3 we think these should be at the top of your list!
