Busted backflows are common due to fact that customers shut it down for the fall and winter , then by late spring they opened the valves not knowing that by doing that ,you trapped water when it freeze, and as you may or may not know, water expands when it freezes, that my friend, caused the cracks in the valves. Water trapped in, expand it causing the cracks.
