SmartBasil LLC was founded by four entrepreneurs who had a vision of providing high quality, healthy, sustainable herbs to the east coast. We are committed to selling the freshest produce while maintaining the smallest carbon foot print possible. A state of the art hydroponic greenhouse enables us to grow herbs that are typically
imported from foreign countries right here in the USA. Furthermore, we have no need for pesticides or herbicides as all of our produce is grown indoors. No international shipping and no pesticides derived from fossil fuels translates to a smaller carbon footprint and healthier food for our customers. SmartBasil LLC's greenhouse is operated and managed by two recent graduates of The College of William and Mary. The concept was created in a entrepreneur internship program and has flourished from there. We began construction in Sept. 2012 and planted our first seeds in Feb. 2013. We are currently seeding the greenhouse and preparing for our first shipment of basil.
