SMI was proud to help build the original Gerdin Business Building in 2003 and return nearly two decades later for its 45,000-square-foot expansion.

Our team is on site at Iowa State University's historic Metals Development Building, completing demolition work as we begin repairs to the parapet.

During World War II, work conducted in this building helped advance uranium production efforts tied to the Manhattan Project. It's not every day you get to work on a building with such a fascinating past.

We're proud to play a small role in preserving this building for future generations.

We’re hiring a Maintenance Mechanic to support operations across Architectural Wall Systems and Seedorff Masonry.

In this role, you’ll help keep our equipment, facilities, and operations running safely and efficiently through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general mechanical support.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and being part of a team that helps keep projects moving forward every day.

Last week, we had the opportunity to host students from Iowa State University’s ConE 241 class at our Grimes shop for a hands-on masonry experience.

We appreciate the opportunity to open our doors, share our craft, and yes—let the next generation make a little mess in the process. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between the classroom and the jobsite, creating meaningful connections to careers in masonry.
