Burns recently took on a complex utility crossing in New Canaan, installing a 36” water main beneath the riverbed with a 16” gas main above it.

Before excavation could begin, crews had to dam and reroute the river to create a controlled work area. From there, Burns’ water and gas divisions worked closely together to coordinate excavation, installation, and sequencing throughout the operation.

The gas main installation is part of a larger effort to supply the new regulator station Burns is installing in Wilton, tying this crossing into a broader regional infrastructure project.

A challenging scope that requires constant coordination between multiple divisions to keep the work moving safely and efficiently.
