Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park

Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park Due to the overwhelming support of the Stoughton community, The Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park is now a reality. Located on the corner of Cty.

Hwy B and Country Club Road with the land generously donated by Oscar and Shirley Linnerud. Located on approximately 3 acres at the intersection of Dane County Hwy B and Country Club Road, just north of Stoughton, The Veterans Memorial Park will become a destination for travelers in the State of Wisconsin. As you enter beneath a wrought iron arch supported on granite pillars, you encounter a broad

walkway with flags of the branches of service running down the center. The flags are set in individual granite bases and flanked by granite benches. The outer edges of the walkway have two rows of granite pillars, depicting in text and engraved images, historic moments in the military history of the United States. These will serve as educational markers to provide future generations with knowledge and perspective of the role veterans have played in securing and preserving our freedoms we all enjoy today. Inlaid in this walkway are pavers recognizing individual veterans from all areas of the US. These pavers will be a central fundraising effort for the construction of the Memorial Park. The walkway will open onto the Memorial Patio. This pentagonal shaped is surrounded by the flags of the VFW, American Legion, POW/MIA, the State of Wisconsin, and anchored by the flag of the United States. These flags will be set in individual granite bases and can be flanked by granite benches. A large centerpiece will list the names of Stoughton area Veterans who were killed in action or missing in action. The centerpiece will have a granite depiction of the US flag in the center of the base and a large bronze statue of an American eagle will crown this centerpiece. Radiating from the center to the five apexes of the pentagon will be a series of black granite markers, which will be engraved with the names of all Stoughton area veterans. These markers will be divided by conflict era or peacetime and will date back to the civil war.

The Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park started with a vision — and a lot of people willing to help make that vision a reality.

These photos capture an early moment in that journey, as Bud Erickson presented the groundbreaking shovel to Pleasant Springs Town Chairperson Mary Haley and to Shelby Linnerud, granddaughter of Oscar and Shirley Linnerud, whose generous donation of the land made the park possible.

It’s special to look back at these moments and remember that before there was a memorial park, there were people coming together to build something that would last for generations.

We’re proud to continue that legacy today by honoring and remembering those who served our country. 🇺🇸

Today we recognize the hard work, dedication, and contributions of workers across our country.

We’re especially grateful for the Veterans who have continued to serve their communities long after their time in uniform. Whether through their careers, volunteer work, or simply lending a helping hand, their commitment to serving others is something worth celebrating.

From all of us at the Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park, thank you to everyone who works hard to make our communities stronger. Have a safe and happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

As we begin a new month, we’re taking a moment to recognize the important dates throughout September that give us an opportunity to honor those who served, remember those who sacrificed, and reflect on the freedoms we share.

From V-J Day and Patriot Day to the U.S. Air Force Birthday, POW/MIA Recognition Day, Gold Star Mother’s & Family’s Day, and National VFW Day, each day carries its own meaning and place in our nation’s history.

We invite you to join us throughout the month as we honor, remember, and preserve the legacy of those who served our country. 🇺🇸

This photo takes us back to the groundbreaking of the Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park — the beginning of a vision that would eventually become a permanent place to honor Veterans throughout the greater Stoughton area.

Shown here are Bud Erickson and Duane Broughton standing at the future site of the memorial.

At the time, there was still a lot of work ahead. But with the support of local Veterans organizations, community members, donors, and volunteers, that vision was officially getting underway.

It’s pretty special to look back and see where it all started. 🇺🇸

Long before the Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park became the place we know today, there was a vision, a lot of hard work, and a community coming together to make it happen.

This photo from 2015 captures an early chapter in the park’s story. At the time, fundraising was underway for the planned $750,000 veterans memorial, and work was beginning at the future park site — including soil testing and preparing the site for what would eventually become the memorial.

The article also highlights the incredible community support behind the project, including the efforts of the American Legion, VFW, volunteers, donors, and local organizations.

It’s pretty amazing to look back and see where this journey started. What began as an idea and a piece of land has grown into a place where our community can come together to honor, remember, and recognize those who served our country. 🇺🇸

We’re grateful to everyone who helped make that vision a reality — and to everyone who continues to support the park today.

Today, we recognize the women who have raised their right hand, put on the uniform, and answered the call to serve.

From generations past to those serving today, women have made—and continue to make—an incredible impact on our military and our nation.

To every woman who has served: thank you for your strength, sacrifice, and service. ❤️🇺🇸

Every part of the Stoughton Area Veterans Memorial Park exists for one reason: to honor those who served us.

This park is bigger than any one person. It belongs to our veterans, their families, our volunteers, our supporters, and our entire community. Every contribution—whether it’s time, resources, or simply helping spread the word—plays a part in preserving this place for generations to come.

Most importantly, we will always remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

This is their legacy. This is why we’re here. 🇺🇸
