We built the face of a building. On the floor.

That's the easiest way to describe the install our crew just wrapped at the Museum of Illusions in Sacramento, working with Sachse Construction and Development Company.

The space was under 250 sq ft — our actual overlay came in under 150 sq ft — but it needed to read as architecture, not flooring.

We used CTS Cement Mfg Corp | Rapid Set LevelFlor with gravel to build a 1.5" overlay, then finished it with the Westcoat TextureCrete system to get the texture and color right.

Battery acid doesn't leave much room for error on a coating system.

Our crew just wrapped prep and install of a Novolac coating system at a distribution center in Manteca, built for a major truck manufacturer, with line striping added once it cured.

Novolac resists the corrosive effects of battery acid — which matters in a facility handling vehicle batteries at scale.
This is the second time we've worked this location. The prep on a job like this doesn't forgive shortcuts — anything missed shows up fast under that kind of chemical exposure.

Another floor that has to hold up to more than foot traffic.

Foreman texts the group: "This floor is trashed. It's going to need a lot of densifier to get it up to par."

We bid this job in two pieces. Mastic and glue removal as its own line item, then floor repairs based on what we could actually see before that removal happened. The plan was always to come back once the GC got further along and finish the floors properly.

So when that text came in, we didn't chase more scope and we didn't panic either.

We held our line with the foreman. This is what we're contracted to do. We'll get to this stopping point, then lay down samples so the GC and owner can see their options and decide.

Before we left the job this week, we installed three different floor finish samples for them to look at. Honestly, we're hoping they stare at the most expensive one long enough to pick it.

Not every "this needs more work" moment means doing the work right then. Sometimes it means giving the client a clean way to make that call themselves.

Finished a polishable overlay in San Rafael — CTS Cement Mfg Corp | Rapid Set LevelFlor and TRU PC.

We keep coming back to RapidSet on these jobs for one reason: consistency. An existing slab is never going to give you even aggregate exposure. Too many variables in how it was poured, cured, and finished over the years.

LevelFlor and TruePC let us build a new wearing surface on top of that history and control the outcome. The result is a finish that's more consistent than the original slab ever could have been.

This is the kind of project we like taking on directly for owners — the material does the heavy lifting, the floor speaks for itself.

We bid a residential overlay in Lodi this summer. The homeowner went with someone else — lower price, probably lower overhead, and from the pictures, lower skill level.

They called us back. The overlay didn't turn out at all, and they're not happy with it. They want us to fix it.

We're glad they trusted us enough to reach back out. We are working through the fix. Going to start with the sample, but we know how to do this part really well.

But it's a good reminder when you're comparing bids on decorative concrete: the price on paper doesn't tell you what the floor looks like. Materials, technique, and experience show up in the finish — not the invoice.

Photos below are the overlay as we found it. We'll follow up once ours is done.

Three floors at a Barnes & Noble in Cupertino needed to be redone. One of them was in rough shape — holes, cracks, the works.

The easy call would've been grinding off the existing resinous coating and replacing it with something cheaper. More cost, more time, lower quality finish.

Instead we worked with the GC to prep the existing coating and lay down a new polyaspartic top coat over it. Skipped the demo, kept the quality, got to a better finish faster.

Nobody had to eat extra cost or extra time. That's what happens when the GC and the sub actually problem-solve together instead of just handing off scope.

Cloud kitchens don't stop running just because a floor needs to get done. On a recent project in San Mateo with Terry Keener Jr., we installed an epoxy chip floor in a high-production shared kitchen space — while the food business tenants kept working around it.

That meant our crew was on site at night, after operations wound down, and the finished sections had to be fully protected before tenants came back in the next morning. It took tight coordination between the owner, the flooring contractor, and our team to keep the schedule moving without disrupting anyone's business.

The result: a durable epoxy chip floor built for the demands of a Bay Area high-production kitchen — installed without costing anyone a day of operations."
