Prepping an area for a new pollinator patch can be a challenge, especially if you’re trying to avoid herbicides. Solarizing is one option to kill existing vegetation, sterilize any existing seeds, and slow rhizomes (like Bermuda) from spreading. Once this process is complete, we’ll come back in with some compost/topsoil mix to kickoff fresh soil microbial life, and overseed with wildflowers this fall. Stay tuned! 🌱☀️

We’re underway on a multi-phase restoration project starting with some tree work in a riparian area. The past few days have been focused on selectively thinning overcrowded saplings, removing invasives, and raising the tree canopy for creek access. We’re leaving several ‘snags’ (standing dead trees) for bird habitat along the way. Many exciting things are ahead!

It’s HOT, folks🌞 It’s a great time to check in and make sure the water you offer to wildlife is filled and ready for them🚰- bird baths, pollinator muddling areas, fountains- whatever you’ve got! The enhanced heat in our urban areas creates an extra challenge for the creatures trying to get through this heatwave.🦋🪶 Hey- fill up your water bottle while you’re at it! And maybe plan to plant a few trees this fall…🫠
