However, we can make interior shutters from other hardwoods such as red or white oak (rift-, quarter- and plain sawn), walnut, beetle kill pine, alder, knotty alder, ash, cherry, knotty pine, mahogany, and many others. Kirtz® shutters are carefully crafted to accentuate the individuality of your home. We use only hardwood and the best paints and stains for durability. The stiles on our shutters are strong and warp-resistant. Thanks to the use of Old World Joinery, a Kirtz® Shutter can never come apart. This console table wears its finish rough on purpose. That worn, distressed paint line along the top edge isn't something we added after the fact. It's part of the piece, left alone instead of sanded smooth.

The base is a tapered trestle style, three slats running down each end instead of a single solid leg, joined with an exposed wood peg through the side post. That kind of joinery shows on purpose. Most furniture hides its connections behind a smooth panel. This one puts the construction on display as part of the design.

It's not a live-edge piece, but the same idea holds: build around the material's real character instead of sanding it away.

A tilt rod down the middle of your shutter panel isn't a flaw. It's just one of two ways to operate the louvers, and both options are available on every Kirtz shutter.

Front-tilt keeps a single wood rod running down the face of the panel, finished to match your stain or paint so it blends into the louvers instead of standing out. It's the classic look most people picture when they think of plantation shutters.

Full-view tilt hides that rod completely. Instead of running down the front, the mechanism sits on the back of the panel, tucked inside the stile, so the louver faces stay clean with nothing crossing them. You get the same tilt control, just without a visible rod at all.

Either way, the rod itself is always solid wood finished to match your shutter, never a metal bar bolted on. Which one looks better usually comes down to your view and how much you want the hardware to disappear.

Most shades give you two choices: let light in or block it out.

Silhouette shades give you a setting in between that actually looks good.

Fabric vanes float between two sheer fabric panels, and you can tilt them open, closed, or anywhere in between. Tilt them open and light comes through soft and diffused, with no hot glare and no harsh lines on the floor. Tilt them closed and the room goes private without going dark and flat.

There's no visible hardware crossing the window when they're open, either. Just the sheer panels and the floating vanes, so the window still feels like a window instead of getting boxed in by a shade.

This elongated sunburst shutter is finished and ready to install. No filters, no staging. Just the panel itself, straight off the bench.

Every louver in this fan opens independently, except for the two in the corners, which are glued in place.

That's more parts to fit, more angles to get right, and more hands-on time than a standard shutter takes. A lot of shops won't quote a shape like this at all.

This one's headed out in the cream finish you see here, but elongated sunbursts, rake shutters, ovals, and arches all get built the same way: shape by shape, not off a template.

Not every window in an older Stillwater home is perfectly square, and that's fine. Custom shutters plan for it.

For a window that's slightly out of square, we can cut the panels to match the exact shape of the opening, or build the frame out a bit to cover the gap and square up the look from the front. Either method gets you a tight, even fit instead of gaps you'd notice every time you walk by.

If a window has trim or hardware that can't come out, like a crank or a lock, we can notch the frame around it instead of asking you to remove something you need.

Some shutters look solid until you tap on them.

Every part of a Kirtz shutter is built from solid hardwood, typically maple, not a composite core with a wood veneer wrapped around it. That matters most in the frame and the louvers, the two parts that take the most daily handling. Solid wood holds its shape and takes stain or paint evenly, so the grain shows through instead of getting hidden under a printed finish.

We also offer a composite option for rooms with heavy moisture, like laundry rooms or rental bathrooms, where moisture resistance matters more than show-through grain. That's a legitimate choice for the right room, not a downgrade we're steering you away from.

A live-edge slab looks unfinished until you realize that's the whole design.

Every piece keeps the natural curve of the tree it came from instead of getting squared off into straight lines. We source ours through a local sawmill partner, then shape, sand, and finish each slab right here in our Stillwater shop into a table, bar top, or mantel built around that one piece of wood.

You can pick a slab from what we have on hand, or bring us wood from a tree on your own property if you want something tied to a specific place or memory. Either way, no two pieces come out looking the same.
