On a recently completed job we were asked to do a few unique accent walls. These types of walls are becoming more and more popular.

Wood accent walls can dramatically change how a room feels, looks, and even functions visually. Because wood adds natural texture and warmth, it influences several design elements at once.

This one was quite the process but the end results are amazing. Turning this old dark outdated basement into a warm cozy place to entertain. This had a little bit of everything. Old wallpaper removal, prep and paint old wood paneling and trim, painting of kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity, all new hardware for cabinets. The proof is in the pictures, you don't have to do a crazy remodel to completely transform your space.

A quick accent wall to start the week. By utilizing some molding with a simple design we're able to add depth and a unique look to any room.

Another recently completed kitchen remodel taking this 1960's kitchen and bringing it up to modern times.

Scope of work involved:
Removing soffit above cabinets to open the space up
New countertops
New backsplash
New sink
New lighting
Remove hood vent above stove and install microwave
New cabinet hardware
Painting of cabinets
Painting of kitchen ceiling, walls, trim

We get asked all the time if painting is the only service we offer. We offer several types of services including general carpentry work. On this current job the homeowner is putting the home up for sale and needed to refresh some damaged areas. They had a stairway that needed addressed from a dog causing some damage. We were able to replace the damaged wood and do a stain match to the current color. In another area of the home they had installed a door in an area where there was originally no door. We were able to replace all the damaged wood and make the opening look new again. We can be your one stop shop for getting a home ready to sell without the need to call several different contractors.

Another recent 3D accent wall completed this week. This customer wanted to spruce up their stairway a little bit instead of having plain boring walls. 3D accent walls are a great way to add a little bit of pop to a feature wall.

It's that time of year again. The time of year where the weather is getting warm and everyone is ready to get outside and fire up the BBQ and enjoy time with family and friends. However it's also that time of year to give your deck a face-lift. Between the rain drops this week we were able to give this old weathered deck a much needed refresh just in time to kick off the summer season. Kitchen cabinets by far are becoming one of the most popular job requests. If you have cabinets still in great shape, then you can save thousands and still modernize your kitchen just with paint. But we hear the same questions over and over again. What all is involved with painting cabinets? Why does a whole room only take a few hours, but my cabinets will take a week? We've decided to give you an inside look at the very job we are currently working on and what type of prep and labor go into cabinet painting.

Picture 1- original cabinet door. As you can see, it was a darker stained wood cabinet with some deeper wood grain. We would start with removing all hardware and sanding the door.

Picture 2- after the first sanding, a light coat of grain filler was applied to the entire door to help fill in some of the deep wood grain.

Picture 3- after the grain filler is dry then the door gets another sanding only leaving behind the filler in the grain.

Picture 4- after the grain filler is sanded, then a coat of shellac based primer is applied. As you can see in picture 2 with the deeper woodgrain you will pull any old grease or cleaning product residue out of the grain. The shellac based primer will help seal all that in so you have no bleedthrough once painted.

Picture 5- after the primer is dry, then everything is sanded again for the 3rd time. This is a door after sanding of the primer.

Picture 6- Finally, two coats of paint are applied. Leaving you with the finished product and ready to be reinstalled.

As you can see, there are several steps to complete a cabinet paint job. While not all kitchens are created equal, these basic steps are included in almost all cabinet paint jobs. The duration of time it takes to complete a kitchen is dependent on many factors such as the size of the kitchen, the colors choosen, if you're painting one side of the doors or two, how deep of a woodgrain your cabinet has.

So, while this process is very labor intensive, it can save you a lot of money in the long wrong and still present that WOW factor.
