We would like to take this opportunity to thank Staunton City Council and the City of Staunton, VA – Government for the gift of the Key to the City and their kind Proclamation for our 50 years of preservation work in Staunton beginning with Historic Staunton Foundation and then Frazier Associates. We are very grateful for and humbled by their recognition. It has been an honor to work with the City over these years to help strengthen and confirm that Staunton is indeed the Queen City of the Shenandoah Valley and one of the most important destinations of historic architecture in Virginia.

We also want to thank all the very kind responses of friends and citizens to the City of Staunton’s posting of the presentation of the Key to us on Facebook. In our earlier years, we were the first and second executive directors of Historic Staunton Foundation and we would like to also acknowledge the other staff members and the board members from that era as well.

Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank all the talented staff who served at Frazier Associates for their contributions of over 39 years of preservation and architectural services to Staunton and communities in Virginia and beyond. They were an essential part of how we were able to do what we did.

Frazier Associates, a nationally recognized architecture and planning firm, closed in June 2025 after thirty-nine years of practice. The firm completed approximately 3,500 projects across more than 100 Virginia communities and in over twenty states. Frazier Associates played a critical role in advancing historic preservation through its leadership in downtown revitalization, the development of design guidelines for historic districts, and the use of tax credits to rehabilitate historic structures.

"A common misconception about the HTC program is that it only supports large projects and projects in large cities. Almost half (44%) of all projects in FY 2022 were under $1 million, and 17% were under $250,000. PolicyMap determined that 29% of all certified rehabilitation projects in FY 2022 were located in

Commonly referred to as the Historic Tax Credit (HTC), the HTC is designed not only to preserve and rehabilitate historic buildings, but also to promote the economic revitalization of older communities in the nation’s cities and towns, along Main Streets, and in rural areas. Since the program’s inception in 1976,
the NPS has certified the rehabilitation of more than 48,000 historic properties throughout the United States, with the HTC leveraging over $235.0 billion in private investment in historic rehabilitation and generating more than 3.2 million jobs.
