This customer needed a rough and overgrown lot cleared out so they can weigh their options for what to do next with the property.

Damp weather is ideal for compaction!

This customer had an worn out automatic horse waterer. It was replaced with a new Drinking Post waterer. We also added a new frost-free hydrant by the barn. After discovering that the existing feed from the house had a slow underground leak, a completely new run of 3/4" 160 psi poly pipe was run from the basement of the house down to feed the new watering system.

This dooryard had major runoff from the hillside above that was spilling down the driveway and eroding the entire way. A swale and culvert were added to get the water away before it could cause a problem, and a section of driveway over the septic tank was converted back to lawn. A new septic tank riser was installed to make it easy to access the tank for inspection and pumping. Finally, the driveway grade was brought up about 10" and finished with new 3/4" plant mix.

Last week we executed a very large culvert install project that has been the result of several months of planning and coordination between the homeowners, Vermont River Management Engineers and several sub contractors.

During heavy rains in 2024, the existing culvert plugged and the driveway crossing washed out completely. The existing culvert was temporarily reset, but a more robust solution was required.

Curtis Landworks coordinated closely with the Vermont Department of Natural Resources on the specific design and layout of the pipe, the stream bed width/elevations and the river bank erosion protection measures.

The existing 36" diameter pipe was undersized for the water flow and restrictive for the natural wildlife in the stream.

An 8'x6'x30' squash culvert was chosen to allow for a drastic increase in capacity as well as an undisturbed path for fish to travel. This new culvert was set 2' below the water line and protruded above the existing grade. In order to achieve an H20 load rating, 2' of crushed stone cover was added on top of the new culvert and the surrounding grades were all brought up to blend the driveway to the yard.

We also roughed in 4 runs of conduit under the new culvert to allow the overhead power, data and solar cables to be installed underground in the future.

Now that’s a pile of dirt.

A tiny hint of blue sky, should be good weather to clean up the mess at the big culvert project.

This awesome property on the hillside at the base of Mt Ellen needed some attention. Brush had taken over on both sides of the driveway and high water volumes had continuously washed out the travel surface. The steep hillsides were mowed, the ditches cleaned, new ditching was added and the entire driveway base was reshaped into an aggressive crown to shed water. To finish it off, the entire driveway was resurfaced with new material and the ditches seeded to prevent erosion.
