Part two of The Tudor House in Greenwich: the first floor 🏡

Our project coordinator Elizabeth walks us through the spaces where first impressions happen, and where the details get personal.

What you don’t see on camera: a herringbone floor only looks this good when the subfloor underneath is dead flat, and century-old buildings rarely start that way. Three bathrooms with three different themes means three sets of tile, wallpaper and fixture selections to track, order and install in the right sequence. That’s the job behind the job.

The order matters as much as the speed.

Paint goes on before the new floors go down. Baseboards wait until the flooring is set. Countertops go in before the backsplash, and touch-ups come after everything else is installed. Each trade finishes before the next one needs the space, so nothing gets redone and the room gets back to residents sooner.

Saving a building’s character is the part you can see. Working with what’s holding it up is the part nobody films.

Hollow clay block was a go-to structural material in the early 1900s, and it behaves nothing like the block crews use today. It’s brittle, it doesn’t take anchors the way modern masonry does, and every new opening, window and fastener has to be planned around it.

Why do we focus on senior living renovations? Our president, Chris Downey, explains.

Heavy equipment is on site in Monroe 🏗️

Griffen Brothers Excavation brought the machines in to prep the site for the 20,000 sq ft warehouse we're building for Carrubba Inc. — moving material, cutting the pad in, and getting everything ready for foundations.

Then we found rock.

In Connecticut, ledge isn't really a surprise. It's a line item. So we're hammering through it now, while the site is still wide open and the excavators are already here.

Excavation and site improvements underway. Foundations are next. 💪

When you call USHS, you’re never lost in a phone tree or handed to the fifth manager down the line.

Here’s something that happens more than you’d think.

A client leaves for a contractor with a lower number. A few months later, they’re back — because the cheaper option turned into missed timelines, poor communication, and work that didn’t hold up.

We don’t take it personally. We take it as proof. The systems we’ve built over years — the ordering, the scheduling, the single point of contact, the attention to detail — aren’t easy to replicate, and clients feel the difference when they’re gone.
