I haven’t posted in a while because the puzzle pieces in the background of my life have been shifting. But somewhere between all that movement, I had the opportunity to work on a really cool project that brought together food, design, composting, community and, of course, worms. 🪱🌱

*What the Soil Remembers 🤎
She Worms Composting partnered with the talented grassroots design team Studio Trip out of New Haven, CT to explore a simple but important question:

What happens after the last bite?

We talk a lot about farm-to-table, but this project challenged us to think beyond the table—to consider how the remnants of our meals can make their way back to the soil.

Our collaboration began by developing and testing a prototype in New Haven CT that incorporated vermicomposting into a dining experience (3D Rendering above)

We worked through the practical side of how worms, food scraps and composting could function within the design.

From there, Studio Trip tweaked and refined the concept before the final installation was built on-site in Seattle for the Seattle Design Festival Seattle Design Festival .

From farm → table → food scraps → worms → soil → farm, the installation allows people to see and interact with a cycle that usually happens out of sight.

Super grateful to Studio Trip for seeing the value that She Worms Composting could bring to this project and for creating space for our expertise in vermicomposting to become part of the design. Collaborations like this show what can happen when design and soil science meet at the SAME table.

And a special thank you to the community gardens that partnered with us. Your willingness to help reminds us that circularity is also about people, relationships and community.

What the Soil Remembers is LIFE. Because when we return something good to the soil, the soil remembers. 🌱🪱♻️

Career advice they probably weren’t expecting:
“Have you considered working with thousands of worms?” 🪱😂

This morning I had the privilege of mentoring youth at Reservoir Community Farm in Bridgeport, sharing how I built a business around vermicomposting and showing them that worm castings are NOT gross!

Who knows?

Today’s workshop may have inspired the next compost business owner… or at least convinced a few kids that worms deserve a little more respect. 🌿🙌

It may look like I planted a marigold jungle 😆🌼, but there’s a method to the madness!

A sweet gardening grandmother 👵 I met at Home Depot two years ago shared a tip I’ll never forget:

“Marigolds discourage deer 🦌 and rabbits 🐇 from snacking on your garden. They hate the smell”

Today’s finishing touch? A cozy layer of hay to lock in moisture, suppress weeds, and keep this raised bed happy. 🌱

Check back in a few weeks for the growth transformation!
