We're proud to see our friend and partner John Gaal highlighted by St. Louis Public Radio for his leadership in advancing mental health awareness in the construction industry: https://www.stlpr.org/show/st-louis-on-the-air/2026-08-25/st-louis-su***de-postvention-prevention-construction-industry-skilled-trades
His work is at the forefront of a major cultural shift within an industry that faces one of the highest rates of mental health- and substance use-related deaths in the country. Through education, advocacy, and honest conversations, John is helping to break down stigma and create a culture where people feel supported, connected, and empowered to seek help when they need it.
Guarantee VP of Risk & Safety Todd Cook, who has worked closely with John at Guarantee and at IBEW Local 1, said: "His work is helping break down stigma, improve access to support, and create meaningful conversations around mental health and su***de prevention. [His work] has the potential to make a lasting impact not only at Guarantee Electrical, but across the construction industry."
We're grateful for leaders like John who are helping make our industry healthier, safer, and better for everyone who calls it home.

A single su***de affects about 135 people on average. A new study on the construction industry, which sees disproportionately high rates of su***de, shows how employers and peers can play a powerful role in the aftermath of such a tragedy.
