How did you miss a football-sized nest in your tree? 🏈🐝
You didn't miss it, the leaves just finally fell!
That is a bald-faced hornet nest. It has been building since spring, completely hidden by the tree canopy. Now that it's visible, do you need to do something about it?

❄️ The Good News: The colony dies off after the first hard freeze, and the nest is never reused. If it’s high up and far away from people, you can let winter handle it.
⚠️ The Warning: If it’s near a door, walkway, deck, or playset, it's a different story. They are highly aggressive and sting repeatedly.

What NOT to do:
🚫 Don't knock it down with a pole or a bat.
🚫 Don't use hardware store spray from below.
🚫 Don't shoot it or try to burn it!

If you spot a nest in a high-traffic area, call us. We’ll give you an honest answer on whether it needs treatment now or if the frost will handle it for you.

Ladybug or Asian Lady Beetle? 🐞 Look for the "M"!
Check the white area right behind the head. If you see a dark "M" shape, that’s an Asian lady beetle. Unlike native ladybugs that stay outside, these are the ones swarming your sunny windows and moving into your walls for the winter!

⚠️ Two rules if they get inside:
1️⃣ Don't crush them! They release a smelly yellow fluid that stains walls and curtains.
2️⃣ Vacuum them up and empty the canister outside.

The real fix happens outside right now. Sealing gaps around your soffits, windows, and utility lines in September stops them from becoming a winter-long headache.
We'll give you an honest assessment of whether treatment or sealing is the better spend for your home.

Check the bug on your window and tell us below: M or no M? πŸ‘‡

Quiet all summer. Noisy in the Fall with cooler Temperatures. This year's young are out looking for a den right now. πŸ¦πŸ‚

Raccoons might look cute, but you definitely don't want them moving in as roommates! The babies born in the spring are fully grown and actively searching for warm, safe places to spend the winter.

If your attic was quiet all summer but you're suddenly hearing heavy thumping or scratching, a young raccoon might have just claimed it as their new home. They aren't afraid to rip right through shingles, soffits, or vents to get inside, which causes massive damage and lets the weather in.

Don't wait for the problem to multiply!

We find how they get in, seal it up, and ensure your entire structure is secured.

Seeing slow, sluggish flies at your upstairs windows on sunny days? πŸͺ°β˜€οΈ
Don't be embarrassedβ€”it has absolutely nothing to do with how clean your house is! These are Cluster Flies, and their life cycle happens out in the lawn, not in your kitchen. They just use your house to stay warm for the winter.

How to tell them apart from house flies:
πŸͺŸ They gather at upstairs windows and attics, not around food.
🐌 They are much slower and clumsier.
β˜€οΈ They "wake up" and swarm the glass on warm, sunny winter days.

They sneak in through gaps around your roof, soffits, and window frames in the fall. Once settled in your wall voids, you will keep finding them on every warm day through spring.

There is still time to seal them out! We’ll tell you exactly what your house actually needs.

Look up! You might be walking under a paper wasp nest every day. πŸπŸ‘€
Paper wasps don't hide. They build their open, umbrella-shaped nests right in the places you pass through constantly. Grab a flashlight and check these common spots:
πŸšͺ Top corners of door frames
πŸ’‘ Around porch lights
πŸͺ‘ Under deck rails and patio furniture
πŸ” Inside grill covers

Right now, colonies are at their largest. Plus, they get much more aggressive as the nights cool down. A nest that ignored you all summer might not tolerate a slammed door in late September!

⚠️ What NOT to do:
❌ Don't spray from a ladder: Falling while swatting wasps is a common way a nuisance turns into an ER visit.
❌ Don't hose it down: This just scatters an angry colony.
❌ Don't seal them in: They will find another way out, sometimes straight into your house.

Go stand at your back door and look straight up. Find anything?

Did you know a mouse can fit through a gap the size of a dime? πŸͺ™πŸ
It's true! A mouse's skull is the only rigid part of its body. Once the head clears a hole, the rest easily follows.

When inspecting homes, we aren't looking for giant holes. We are looking at the four spots that are almost always left open:
πŸ’¨ Dryer vents: Warped flaps or missing caulk.
πŸš— Garage doors: Bottom corners with worn rubber seals.
πŸ”Œ Utility lines: Unsealed gaps where cable or AC lines enter.
🧱 Foundations: The sill gap where the house meets the foundation.

To a mouse, all of these are open doors!
πŸ”¦ Your Weekend Homework: Grab a flashlight and check these four spots!
If you find a gap and aren't sure how to fix it, send us a photo or give us a call.

Most people call us about squirrels because of the noise... but that is the least expensive part of the problem. πŸΏοΈπŸ”Š

A squirrel's front teeth never stop growing, so they chew constantly. If they are in your attic, they are chewing your insulation, stored boxes, and even your wiring.

While you are getting used to the scratching sounds, three things are happening:
❄️ Insulation gets shredded, quietly raising your heating bill all winter.
⚑ Wiring gets chewed, creating a serious fire hazard.
🌧️ Entry holes get wider, letting weather and water get inside.

Fixing a small opening in September is a small job. Replacing contaminated insulation and hiring an electrician in January is not!

If you are in Lemay or South County and hearing noises, let us take a look. We remove them humanely, seal the entry, and handle the repair.

Why are there suddenly giant spider webs all over your porch? πŸ•ΈοΈπŸ•·οΈ
The spiders didn't just show upβ€”they’ve actually been there since spring! Fall is just when they reach full size, which means bigger webs right where you walk to your car. Plus, the bugs they eat are peaking right now. More bugs = more spiders.

Quick fixes to reduce porch spiders:
πŸ’‘ Swap exterior bulbs: Use warm/yellow lights instead of bright white to attract fewer bugs.
🧹 Knock down webs: Doing this regularly forces them to relocate.
πŸͺ΅ Move firewood & mulch: Keep these away from your foundation.
πŸšͺ Check door sweeps: Seal up gaps to keep them outside!

Most St. Louis spiders are harmless, but it’s perfectly fine if you just don’t want them taking over your front porch! We can help.

Most yellow jacket nests in St. Louis are actually underground in old rodent burrows. All you see is a quarter-sized hole. What sets them off? Ground vibration from your mower, w**d whacker, or kids running by. September is their peak population time, and they are highly aggressive.

If you spot steady insect traffic in and out of the ground:
🚫 DO NOT pour gasoline or boiling water down the hole.
🚫 DO NOT plug the entrance (they will dig a new exit, sometimes right into your basement!)
🚫 DO NOT try a DIY spray.

Mark the spot, keep pets away, and call the pros. We will handle it safely. (Note: If they are fuzzy and amber, they are honeybees! Send us a photo from a safe distance and we’ll verify).

Has anyone accidentally found a ground nest this year? Where was it hiding? πŸ‘‡

Warm afternoons + cool nights = stink bugs swarming the sunny side of your house. β˜€οΈπŸͺ²
They’re soaking up the sun on your south and west walls before looking for a gap to sneak inside for winter.

🚫 Pro Tip: DO NOT CRUSH THEM. The smell lingers and can attract more! Vacuum them up and empty the canister outside immediately. Check these 4 spots before they get in:
βœ… Gaps where siding meets the soffit
βœ… Cracked caulk around window frames
βœ… Torn window screens
βœ… Where AC and utility lines pass through the wall

Sealing those gaps now prevents hundreds of bugs from living in your walls until March. Once they are in for the winter, you just have to wait them out. We’ll tell you honestly if an exterior treatment or sealing is the best use of your money.
