I have found it useful for customers to see a visual in 3D to better understand what they are getting and to be able to adjust it to their liking. You never quite know what it will look like until you see it in scale and modeled in 3D.
Eye candy is great and very helpful, but the background knowledge of how it fits together, is it code?, does it make sense to the builder, inspectors etc?, And most importantly is it structurally sound? These aspects are what sets me apart from other designers. I have 30 years of design and building experience.
