Our company has lost a legend — a man whose work ethic was truly unmatched. Sandy Simms was far more than a successful businessman; he was an inspiration, a mentor, and the foundation upon which so many lives were built. His dedication to creating a legacy for his family led to the formation of M&J Construction, built side-by-side with his sons, Mark and John Simms.

Sandy was a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother, a husband, and a dear friend to many. His integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment left a lasting imprint on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. A true lover of nature, he found joy in life’s simple gifts — watching birds, feeding squirrels, and excavating ponds across the lands of Washington County.

His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, the opportunities he created, and the example he set each and every day. Though he is no longer with us, the impact of his leadership and his spirit will continue to guide us.

Please keep Mark and Denita Simms and their family, as well as John and Anne Simms and their family, in your thoughts and prayers.

Sandy will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A testament from our Lead Estimator Jonathan Hubbard:
“I was first introduced to David Lee when starting with M&J construction in 2012. It was immediately obvious to me " fresh out of college" he was going to be thinking 10 steps a head to keep a project on schedule. A true old school superintendent pushing the workers on site and reminding me to keep the new school paperwork moving throughout his career. His final project was the Washington County EMS building which was completed on time and in budget. He was not able to man the job through the punch list and final completion. He even called me after hours to check on the status of the project while in the hospital and also asked about my kids hunting and fishing in his final few weeks. He was a great man that exhibited the work ethic it takes to be successful along with personal conversation, and will surely be missed.”

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear friend and coworker , David Lee Mudd. He was more than just a superintendent he was a valuable member of our family here at M&J Construction. He was a mentor to both Mark and John many years ago when stepping into the construction industry.

David Lee poured his heart and soul into every project, every crew, and every day on the job site. His dedication, humor, and kindness left a lasting mark on all of us, and the impact he made will not be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. His M&J Construction family will deeply miss him, but we’re grateful for the time and knowledge he shared.

Rest easy, David Lee. You’ll always be part of the M&J Construction family.

Miles of Carvings did an amazing job turning around this vision of sentiment for the Kulsveen Family and Willetts Distillery family. Mr. Even was truly a remarkable human with a passion for 🥃 and whose impact and legacy will live on. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as he is laid to rest.

It was an honor to recreate this bottle for the Kulsveen family in memory of Mr. Even Kulsveen, who originally hand drew the Rowans Creek label. Creating this hand-carved bottle was a meaningful tribute to his legacy. A special thanks to M & J Construction for helping make this project possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family!
