Interested in backyard elderberries? Elderberries are easy to grow, produce heavy crops (for you and the birds), and are well known for providing immune support.

Some of their uses include syrup, jam, tea, and tinctures. When canes get grouped together, they form a really nice hedge between you and that neighbor you don't like so much. ;) They tolerate full sun to partial shade, which makes them very versatile. There are at least 2 cautions you should be aware of when planting elderberries: 1) unlike other berries, they require cooking before eating, and 2) they'll require thinning every few years, or they will consume whatever area you put them in.

We currently have elderberry canes for sale. 5/$10. Message us if you're interested in adding these to your farm.

Great news, everyone! Area counties have launched their tree sales. They don't stay open for long, so don't dilly dally. I've included links to those we're aware of in the comment below.

Another high-wind day here in SW . It's a good reminder for to cover bare soil in their and flower beds. Soil erosion and moisture loss are negative consequences and can be deterred by topping beds with cut grass, cardboard, compost, or straw. Of course, wood mulch works too, as long as it doesn't get worked into the soil, thereby tapping its nitrogen.
