Today I had the pleasure of channeling my inner bog monster ๐ŸงŒ. We took a field trip to Valley Water Mill today to learn about storm water management and floating wetlands! ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒฑ โ€ฆ. Did you know every 250 sqft of floating wetland is equivalent to 1 acre of natural wetland in regards to nutrient remediation? How magical โœจ. We got to help build one today thanks to Grow Native and Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, Inc..

ALSO as somebody who worked extensively with hydroponics in my college era, please give me space to nerd out on this substrate! What appears to be white limestone rock is actually glass processed in a way to where it turns into basically a rock shaped packing peanut that holds the plants in place on the floating wetland. โœจโœจ

Upon first glance I assumed this little guy was one of my dogs having a bad dayโ€ฆ but alas, a slime mold in my garden! (Iโ€™m incredibly honored). You know that not fungus, but also kind of a fungus thing that Japan used to create a more efficient subway system map? If any of you know how to talk to these things Iโ€™m interested in booking a consultation. โœจ๐Ÿ’…

Slime molds are a sign my mulch is decaying at a very timely rate, the bacteria and microorganisms are abundant, and soil moisture is being retained! This guy doesnโ€™t eat plants, but the microorganisms that inhabit the soil around them better watch their backs. This species was yellow while active and is now brown while spreading its spores to find its new home ๐Ÿ’”

If any of you see slime mold in your yard, just give yourself a pat on the back youโ€™re probably doing something right! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿชด

WOW. I cannot believe the amount of community support and action we have been able to stir up lately (with your help of course). The last 6 weeks have been a whirlwind of plant walks, consultations, designs, building community events, calls from organizations for partnership and classes, and we had the privilege of hiring a new team member! ๐Ÿฅณ

As always we would not be able to do any of this work without you, our community! So from Wildscapes to you we would like to formally thank all of those who have seen the vision of what we are trying to do and supported us to get us to where we are today. Without your trust and interest, we would not have been able to help so many with habitat building, erosion issues, invasive species management, edible landscaping and more!

With all this being said, If you are feeling overwhelmed by your garden and need a temporary hand, or you're starting from square one, we are here for you! Please also visit our website to see if you are a good match for any of our community projects.(wildscapesmo.com)

Thank you!๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

We just published a new blog on why you should be planting oak trees! If you love native landscaping specifically for maximizing wildlife value, then you don't want to skip this one!๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š
