🏠 A strong roofing system starts before the shingles ever go on.

With the roof deck confirmed to be in good condition, our crew moved on to installing the protective layers that help keep water out of the home. This Annandale project includes Owens Corning RhinoRoof® Ice & Water Barrier in key areas and RhinoRoof® Synthetic Underlayment across the remaining roof surfaces.

The project also includes a DeckSeal low-slope roofing system in the dead valley section between the garage and main roof, providing additional protection in one of the roof’s most water-sensitive areas.

Many homeowners focus on shingle color, but what sits underneath the shingles plays a major role in long-term roof performance.

After removing the existing roofing materials on this Annandale home, our crew carefully inspected the roof deck before installing the new roofing system. A tear-off does more than remove worn shingles; it gives us the opportunity to verify that the structure beneath is ready for the next phase of the project.

🏠 Sometimes the biggest roofing problems start with the smallest details.

During this Annandale roof and skylight inspection, our team found several signs of wear that aren’t always visible from the ground, including exposed fasteners, aging shingles, deteriorated trim, and older skylights nearing the end of their service life.

It’s a good reminder that a roof is more than just shingles. Flashing, ventilation, skylights, trim, and drainage work together as a single system. When one component starts to fail, it can affect the rest of the roof over time.

This home now has a completely updated Owens Corning Duration roofing system in Peppercorn, featuring new decking upgrades, improved ventilation, fresh flashing details, and crisp white drip edge along the roof perimeter.

From the original inspection findings to the final installation, this project addressed aging shingles, decking issues, ventilation improvements, and waterproofing upgrades to provide the home with a stronger, longer-lasting roofing system built to current standards.

The Peppercorn color turned out beautifully and gives the home a sharp, modern finish while still fitting the neighborhood's character.

For this Alexandria roof replacement, our crew installed synthetic underlayment, waterproofing protection in critical areas, updated ventilation components, and new white drip edge around the roof perimeter.

These details may not be the most visible parts of the finished roof, but they play a huge role in protecting the home from moisture intrusion and helping the roofing system perform over the long term.

🔨 This is the part of a roof replacement most homeowners never get to see, but it makes a huge difference.

For this Alexandria project, the original roof decking was upgraded with new plywood sheathing to create a stronger, more uniform surface beneath the new roofing system.

The inspection phase revealed that the older plank decking was in poor condition and could affect long-term fastening performance, so a full plywood overlay was the right solution before installing the new Owens Corning Duration roof in Peppercorn.

We also installed H-clips between trusses to help improve support and stability across the roof deck.

A roof is only as strong as the surface beneath it, and this upgrade helps set the foundation for a longer-lasting roofing system built to modern installation standards.

For this Alexandria project, our crew began by carefully removing the existing roofing system and protecting the property with full perimeter tarping before exposing the original roof deck.

During tear-off, we confirmed several of the decking concerns identified during the inspection. To provide a stronger foundation for the new roof, this home is receiving a full plywood overlay before installation of the new Owens Corning Duration shingles in Peppercorn.

Many homeowners focus on the shingles, but the roof deck underneath is just as important. A solid decking surface helps improve fastening strength, durability, and overall performance of the roofing system over time.

🔍 Not every roofing problem is obvious from the ground.

During this inspection in Alexandria, our team found several issues contributing to the roof’s deterioration, including granule loss, cracked shingles, improperly sealed valleys, missing drip edge, and ventilation problems in the attic.

One of the biggest concerns was the closed-cut valley installation shown in these photos. Roof valleys handle a huge amount of water during heavy rain, and when they’re not sealed properly, water can eventually work its way beneath the shingles.

We also documented missing drip edge along the eaves and rakes, as well as decking conditions that may not provide adequate fastening support for a new roofing system.

The good news? These are all issues that can be properly corrected during a replacement with updated installation methods, improved ventilation, and a complete roofing system built to current standards.

A detailed inspection helps homeowners understand what’s really happening on the roof before small problems turn into interior damage.
