One thing I've learned running a lawn-care business is that every lawn is different.

Some lawns need fertilizer.

Some need better mowing practices.

Some need w**d control.

And some need a complete reset.

That's why I don't want to sell customers services they don't need.

My goal with lawn renovations is to look at the lawn, identify what's actually holding it back, and build a plan around that.

Why we like aeration + overseeding together

Aeration creates openings throughout the soil.

Overseeding puts new grass seed into those areas.

Starter fertilizer provides nutrients to support establishment.

Then comes the part that you have to do:

💧 WATER.

New seed needs consistent moisture to germinate and establish.

We'll handle the application work.

You provide the water.

Question: "Can you just put seed down?"

You can—but sometimes there's more to it.

For an established lawn, simply throwing seed onto the surface may not provide the best opportunity for that seed to establish.

That's why we may recommend:

Core aeration → overseeding → starter fertilizer → proper watering

The exact recommendation depends on the condition of your lawn.

Why does your lawn need aeration?

Over time, soil can become compacted from foot traffic, pets, mowing and normal use.

Compacted soil makes it harder for:

🌱 Water to reach the root zone
🌱 Oxygen to reach the roots
🌱 Nutrients to move through the soil
🌱 Grass roots to grow properly

Core aeration removes small plugs of soil from the lawn, creating channels that allow air, water and nutrients to move more effectively through the root zone.

And when paired with overseeding, it can provide an excellent opportunity to thicken an established lawn.

If your lawn feels hard, thin, or struggles despite regular care, aeration may be worth considering.

After a few frustrating days, combined with the rain over the last couple of days, we've decided to call it a day and reset.

Our remaining Thursday schedule will be completed tomorrow. We'll regroup, knock the dust off our sandals, and get back after it first thing in the morning.
