SAME TRUCK. SAME MATERIAL. TWO DIFFERENT STYLES OF SLINGING. 🚛💨
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at something most people probably wouldn’t think twice about.
Both of these loads were placed by the same operator — me. Same equipment, same material, same project. Two completely different approaches.
🔴 HIGH-SPEED UNLOAD (RUNNING A BEAD/WINDROW)
This method is all about getting material out of the truck quickly. Run a continuous bead, empty the load, and move on to the next one.
The downside? Material is left in a concentrated pile, requiring additional equipment, labor, and time to spread it out and bring everything to grade.
🟢 CONTROLLED SPREADING
This approach takes a little more patience and precision. Instead of concentrating the material in one location, it’s distributed across the work area during unloading.
The result? More uniform coverage, less material to move afterward, and significantly less work required to achieve final grade.
⏱️ THE DIFFERENCE? Roughly 5 minutes per load.
Five extra minutes behind the controls can potentially save considerably more time on the ground.
Now, here’s the important part: Neither method is necessarily wrong. Both have their place depending on the project, the equipment available, and what the contractor needs.
Sometimes production speed is the priority. Other times, precision and reducing the amount of finish work make all the difference.
