Honey bees are under great pressure today from habitat loss, pests, diseases and pesticides. As an experienced beekeeper, I am dedicated to keeping my bees healthy and happy. Always good when a plan comes together: retrieved a swarm in Roselawn tonight that had taken over a shade umbrella. The homeowner had me take the whole umbrella away, which I used as a nice insulating cover for some nucs I made up yesterday. Hopefully it will get them through this late cold snap.

First cutout of 2020! I was working alone, so I couldn't get a lot of pictures (too sticky), but it was a good sized hive for sure. I filled 10 deep frames with brood comb and had a tote bucket full of wonky combs, plus about 8-10 pounds of bees in the vac.

Drones in the hives, queen cups built, a few reports of swarms already coming in... that mild winter is pushing things forward a bit this year! Might be doing grafting sooner than I thought.
