What is Integrated Pest Management (IPM)?

Think of Integrated Pest Management as a smart defense strategy rather than a one-size-fits-all attack. Instead of just spraying chemicals to get rid of pests temporarily, IPM focuses on understanding why the pests are there in the first place and stopping them at the source.
It is a combination of common-sense practices, deep pest knowledge, and highly targeted treatments that protect your home, your family, and the environment.

At ARMD Pest Management Specialists, we break our IPM strategy down into four clear steps:

1. Inspection and Identification
- We don't guess. We inspect your property with extreme attention to detail to find out exactly what kind of pest is invading, where they are hiding, and what is attracting them.

2. Prevention (Cultural and Physical Controls)
- We look for the root cause. This means identifying "conducive conditions"—like a leaky pipe providing water, a gap under a door, or tree branches touching your roof line. By sealing entry points and removing food and water sources, we stop bugs before they ever get inside.

3. Monitoring
- Pest control isn't a one-and-done event. We track pest activity over time using specialized monitors. This tells us if a pest population is growing, shrinking, or completely gone, allowing us to adjust our strategy perfectly.

4. Smart, Targeted Control
- If a treatment is necessary, we don't just blast your baseboards with generic chemicals. We use highly specific, eco-conscious products applied precisely where the pests live and travel. This keeps the bugs out while keeping your family, pets, and property safe.

Why choose an IPM provider?

Major corporate brands often rely on "speed-spraying"—rushing through a yard just to check a box. True IPM requires a technician who actually takes their time, looks closely, and uses a tailored strategy.

That is the ARMD difference.

...Is what you are spraying safe around my kids and pets..?
This is for obvious reasons my most commonly asked question as a Pest Management Specialist.

The answer is yes, when the right products are used by a properly trained individual. At ARMD we utilize microencapsulated products and understand how to keep a safe chemical threshold in your home while putting an end to the creepy crawlies.

Here's a bit of information on microencapsulated products!

Microencapsulated pesticides are generally considered a safer option for residential pest control compared to standard, quick-release liquid sprays because the active chemical is encased in microscopic plastic or polymer shells. (Similar to extended release medication) This design creates a time-release mechanism that minimizes "flash" exposure, dramatically reducing immediate chemical odor, airborne vapors, and the overall risk of acute toxicity for the inhabitants and the person applying it. Because the protective coating slowly breaks down or relies on insects physically stepping on the capsules to rupture them, the chemical stays localized on treated surfaces rather than drifting through the indoor air. However, while they are engineered to enhance household safety, they are not completely risk-free. If children or pets touch wet, newly treated boundaries before they dry completely, dermal irritation can still occur.

Entry points to your home or business come in all shapes and sizes, often hiding in plain sight. Driving around our Northwest Arkansas communities, I routinely spot vulnerable entry points that standard pest control companies completely overlook.

Some of the most common culprits are worn-out garage door seals, foundation gaps, and unprotected dryer vents. At ARMD Integrated Pest Control Specialist LLC, we don't just treat the symptoms—we stop the problem at the source.

We will thoroughly inspect your property and help you identify every potential pest entryway, completely free of charge. From there, I will work with you to create a customized, affordable sealing plan that fits your budget and protects your property.

🚨 Think you know cockroaches? Think again! 🚨

These pests are famous for being tough, but how they survive inside a home is downright incredible—and a little bit unsettling. Understanding their daily living habits is the first step to keeping them out of your space for good.

Here are 10 mind-blowing facts about cockroach habits you might not know:

📦 They are master hitchhikers: German cockroaches rarely crawl in from the yard. Instead, they sneak into homes hidden inside cardboard delivery boxes, grocery bags, used appliances, or electronics.

🚪 They squeeze into almost anything: Roaches love tight spaces where their backs and bellies touch a surface at the same time. They can compress their bodies to fit into cracks as thin as a dime!

💧 Water is their weakness: While they can survive a whole month without a single bite of food, they will die within just one week if they can't find water.

🛠️ They gather around utility hubs: Because they need moisture and warmth, their ultimate hotspots are behind refrigerators, under sinks, near water heaters, and around dishwasher motors.

🍽️ Their diet is... everything: When crumbs run out, roaches don’t starve. They will readily eat wallpaper paste, book bindings, soap, grease film on walls, and even fallen hair – AND… each other.

🕶️ Daytime sightings mean crowding: Roaches are strictly nocturnal. If you see one wandering around during the day, it usually means their hidden nesting areas are already completely overcrowded.

🧳They travel through the plumbing: Larger species, like American cockroaches, live in sewers and storm drains. They easily enter homes by traveling up through floor drains or dry sink traps.

💨They leave an invisible trail: Cockroaches produce chemical scents called "aggregation pheromones" in their droppings. This acts like a GPS tracker, signaling to other roaches that a specific spot is a safe place to gather.

🛑Store-bought sprays often make it worse: Reaching for a can of generic bug spray might kill the one roach you see, but the harsh chemicals act as a repellent to the rest. It triggers a stress response that causes the hidden colony to scatter deeper into your walls, vents, and neighboring rooms—making the infestation harder to root out.

📈 They multiply at lightning speed: A single female German cockroach and her offspring can produce thousands of new roaches in a single year, turning a tiny problem into a massive infestation fast.

⚠️ Why DIY Treatments Fall Short
Effectively eliminating a roach colony requires proper, targeted chemical use—not just blasting whatever moves. Professional treatment utilizes advanced, non-repellent transfer products and specialized baits. The roaches don't even realize they've encountered it; they carry it back into the deep recesses of their nests, eliminating the entire population at the source rather than just moving them around.

Ever notice these fast-moving neighbors showing up in your tub or basement after a heavy Arkansas downpour?

Meet the House Centipede! While they might give you a little fright, there’s a good reason they’re visiting.

Why do they show up when it rains?

• Seeking High Ground: Just like us, they don’t want to drown! Heavy rain saturates the soil outside, forcing them to find drier, warmer shelter—which often leads them right into your crawlspaces or drains.

• Humidity: These guys thrive in moisture. When the humidity spikes during rainy seasons, your basement or bathroom becomes their favorite "tropical" getaway.

• Following the Buffet: Rain often brings other pests inside (like ants or silverfish). Centipedes are natural hunters, so they’re simply following their food source!

Will the rain just wash the treatment away?

Actually, rainy season is the most important time for a barrier!

We use specialized products designed to bond to surfaces, meaning they stay effective even when it's damp.

By treating the perimeter now, we stop the "Great Indoor Migration" before these leggy friends (and their prey) ever make it past your door.

We’re here to help keep the balance right!
Give us a call or send us a text at A.R.M.D Pest Control Specialist, we'll handle the bugs so you can enjoy the rain.
