Two of my favorite clients are getting their 2nd Michelle Tanner Homes addition. The first was a window filled expansion off the rear of the home and a gorgeous screened porch overlooking their pool and private backyard. This time we are adding a main floor primary suite so they may age in place in their family home. They will have a study with a fireplace, a large walk-in closet including the washer and dryer within, a well appointed primary bath with a zero clearance shower as well as a tub and a sun filled primary bedroom overlooking the backyard. Ready, Set, Go!🏡🔨👷‍♀️🚜.

For years, West Michigan families have trusted us to bring their homes to life — but I’d love the opportunity to reintroduce myself and the story behind Michelle Tanner Homes.

I’m a 5th generation builder who grew up around construction, craftsmanship, and the belief that a home should feel deeply personal. I started Michelle Tanner Homes after my second child turned two, driven by a vision I felt was missing in the market: homes with architecturally interesting exteriors, thoughtfully designed interiors, and a building experience centered around collaboration and trust.

What began in the spec home market quickly grew through Parade of Homes, word-of-mouth referrals, and the support of incredible clients who believed in what we were creating. Over time, that foundation evolved into a custom home building company focused on intentional design, quality craftsmanship, and homes that truly reflect the families living in them.

Today, I’m proud to continue building with the same passion that inspired me from the beginning — creating homes that are elevated, timeless, and designed to live beautifully for generations.

For years, I’ve been asked when Michelle Tanner Homes would build in Northern Michigan. The answer was always the same: when the timing is right.

That timing feels right now.

For 24 years, I’ve built homes rooted in craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a client experience built on communication, transparency, and trust. Expanding into Traverse City was never about simply taking on more projects—it was about doing it the right way.

That starts with building a network of highly skilled trades and vendor partners who share the same commitment to quality that my clients have come to expect. Strong craftsmanship requires strong people behind it.

From early design collaboration to structural planning, construction logistics, and the final finishing details—our process is deeply hands-on and intentionally client-centered.

I’m coming to Northern Michigan because I see a growing need for this level of service among families who are building their forever homes here—and I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead.

Traverse City—we’re ready.

24 years ago, I stepped into an industry where women were rarely seen leading construction projects—and I knew I had something to prove.

What started as a passion for building quickly became a calling: creating homes where families gather, memories are made, and craftsmanship matters.

There were long days on job sites, difficult lessons, challenges no one sees behind the finished photos—and moments where quitting would’ve been easier.

But I stayed.

And today, after building throughout West Michigan’s lakeshore communities for 24 years, I’m incredibly proud to announce our expansion into Traverse City.

This is more than business growth.It’s the next chapter of a story built on resilience, grit, and a genuine love for creating exceptional homes.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more of that story—the highs, the lessons, and what it really looks like behind the scenes of building homes.
