Safety Director Dominic Pope recently stepped off the job site and onto the 2026 National Safety Council (NSC) Safety Conference & Expo floor at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

As NCI’s Risk Chairman, Dominic represented both Gaines and NCI at the conference, which offered 160+ safety-focused breakout sessions.

Keynote speakers included newly-appointed OSHA Director David Keeling (who presented on modern changes OSHA is making to be more employer friendly, like the new OSHA CARES policy) and Derek Daly (who was severely injured in the early years of Indy racing, changing the future of its safety protocols).

“The speakers were impactful, the breakout sessions were educational, and the EXPO gave me the chance to learn more about new safety products, PPE, and technology,” said Dominic. “Equally important was the networking, where I connected with respectable professions throughout the country.”

Thanks for a great conference, NSC!

🎃👻 Halloween Safety Starts with Awareness!

At Gaines & Company, safety doesn't stop when the workday ends. As families prepare for a night of costumes, candy, and trick-or-treating, we're reminding everyone to keep safety a priority.

🍬 A few simple tips for a safe Halloween:

🔦 Be Seen: Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes and treat bags to improve visibility.

🚸 Stay Alert: Stick to sidewalks, use crosswalks, and choose well-lit routes.

👨‍👩‍👧 Stay Together: Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.

🚗 Drive Carefully: Slow down in neighborhoods and watch closely for children crossing streets or walking near driveways.

Safety is everyone's responsibility — on the job, on the road, and in our communities.

We are in the last stages of our project scope at the Fairways at Woodholme – a single-family home development by Lennar in Pikesville, MD.

To successfully install this massive culvert, we placed 3 (very large!) pieces of pipe. We then used the cast-in-place concrete process (thanks to the experts at Eureka Concrete Construction!) to secure the pipes in place.

Thanks to Sunrise Safety Services for keeping everyone safe by shutting down the road and managing detours as we completed this work.

🔥 Fire Prevention Week™ is October 4–10, 2026. “Charge Into Fire Safety™.

Safe Charging Is a Superpower” focuses on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they
fail. For more info: fpw.org.

Congratulations to our very own Safety Director Dominic Pope for being approved by the NCI Executive Board to assume the role as Risk Chairman. Dominic is passionate about the safety of our employees and those throughout the industry. The captive is in good hands with Dominic now representing all NCI member companies.

“I don’t look at this as a position I am filling,” said Dominic. “Instead, I look at it as an honor to serve the captive in a way I know I can truly make an impact.”

🚗👶 Today is National Seat Check Saturday!

Is your child riding in The Right Seat?

Today is a great reminder to take a few minutes to check your child’s car seat or booster seat and make sure it’s appropriate for their age and size—and installed correctly.

A few things to check:

❓Is your child in the right car seat or booster for their age and size?
❓Is the seat installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions?
❓Is the harness adjusted properly?
❓Has the seat been checked for recalls?

Not sure if everything is right? NHTSA recommends getting help from a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

At Gaines & Co., we’re proud to help spread the word about simple steps families can take to make every ride safer.
