Worm Farming Revealed

Worm Farming Revealed Worm Farming Revealed has been dedicated to teaching, inspiring, and empowering gardeners, recyclers I'll be condensing it from 2 hrs. down to 90 min. UGH!

The Award-Winning Screenplay, The Beneficials, is currently undergoing another draft. This has been recommended by judges. 2 hrs. can be very expensive to produce animation. This will be a painful process (to cut out scenes) but very necessary.

THE BENEFICIALS UPDATE! A RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS!

I apologize for the long post AND for not being in the group as much lately. Admins should be seen more but please hear me out and understand the reason I’m posting this. I feel I owe this to the group since I’m an admin, moderator, etc.

I’m not dead or self-decomposing/composting. I still worm compost for the purpose of growing plants. I continue to maintain an informational website based on my studies in the field of worm composting and other composts.

One of the reasons I don’t post as much is because I usually do a 3 year test (in the field or the worm bin). If it’s successful, I share my results. I never want to get anything wrong or share something just because it worked the first time. Sometimes one must begin a new 3 year trial. If I mess up or I’m wrong, then others will be too. It’s simply a responsibility I put on myself.

With that being said, many of you know that I’ve been working on a project since 2017, The Beneficials. The project has taken many different media outlet ideas only to end up where I first wanted it to exist, a film-like illustrated video. It’s by no means an 8 hr./day job. It’s "whenever I CAN" type of project.

After producing other literature in several media, I’m no different than any of you. I’ve asked myself the same questions you’ve asked yourselves. How do I get the information (the truth) about growing healthy food and medicine, from natural growth medium, in the form of compost to the world?

How do you get the benefits of worm composting outside of our groups to the world? It’s like no one even really cares, right?

Other than being force-fed with a funnel shoved down someone’s throat, I needed something to transcend the worm composting communities. I needed something EXTRA-worm composting. I needed something that would be accepted by those NOT looking to be preached at yet willing, happy, and even excited to see and hear something and not even know they’re being educated. So, the answer was…

ENTERTAINMENT!

How was I going to do this? I didn't want a documentary. I wanted something FUN for everyone, something that even kids would want to see and later do in life, a project that uninterested adults would enjoy. Docus don’t do that. I had no idea but to look at a blank piece of paper for what seemed like hours. (a computer screen, for those that didn’t take typing on an electric typewriter in high school in the 80’s), 😊 However, I did feel I had parts of a framework from the many years of writing before 2017. That DID help.

I know no one, but a handful, has read the script. Their feedback was very positive, extremely warranted (thank you), but biased to composting. This is why I needed to enter the script into film festivals for professional feedback. You’ll see the awards on the original cover, and I walk through professional feedback in a video I made a few years ago. I also apologize for not sharing the script to the public, but it could easily be rewritten, stolen, patented, made into a book, etc. This was one of the reasons for sharing it with a few of you (well, those that asked) and to professional script critics.

Note: It is patented, but still, with ai today, it's too risky. But really, if you haven’t read the story, you’re blessed. Otherwise, it’ll ruin your virgin eyes when the film comes out.

So, all of this to say…
I'm not dead, I’m just so very busy.

The Beneficials is a continual work in progress. It has even changed somewhat, back when some of you read it.

Here is an update since its conception in 2017.

First of all, I haven’t found a suitable studio, producer, or director that shares my vision. The most difficult script to get to the screen is animation. It’s the hardest to produce, the most expensive (tens of million$ and more if going big), and it takes several crews of people working all of their separate artistic skills.

Most studios (Disney/Pixar) produce everything in-house and have/own their writers, engineers, etc. and so forth. They won’t even look at people like us, even going through proper channels. Studios receive 80,000+ scripts per year, So...

I'M GOING SOLO.

I'm definitely not saying I'm anywhere near as good as the pros, but I do believe the story is very good. Due to A.I., I've been learning how to illustrate. I've created over 1,100 digital illustrations, not including all the discards (I'm only up to pg. 32 of a 140 pg script). It is overwhelmingly time consuming and I can only do this in my spare time, making time, and on borrowed time.

I started illustrating in December last year (2025) and it was slow going because I had to learn, learn, pull my hair out, suck-it-up, and learn some more. I was shooting finalization for the end of spring, but at this rate, I might get done by the end of the year with everything.

My old way was to spend a lot of money on one illustration and wait 1-2 weeks of back and forth collaborating or translating. It was still worth the time and money because it helped set up the framework for all of the ai prompts/code I have to write. The drawings were very nice, but the movie will take A LOT of illustrations, and they have to be GREAT illustrations these days. I promise you the plot is as good as the illustrations. This is why I must proceed in this manner.

Here is what I have so far...
* The 140+ pg. script. (2 hrs. give or take)
* All of the music score 1 hr. 20 min. with license
* Most of the sound effects, licensed
* A lot of illustrations, also licensed

What I need...
More sound effects, illustrations, vocals, (V.O. Voice Overs), time, and a big shoulder massage. A butt massage too (don't know how you office people get through the day). Some likes and shares would be appreciated. Maybe it will get the attention of a producer.

So, I am not dead, I just feel like it. I am not turning away any possible leads for a producer or studio. I really don't see anyone understanding my vision (the way I do) in getting this production and message out in the way I need to.

My goal back in 2010 was to raise awareness about growing food and medicine, naturally, to the world, unlike any way or any one has done before. This is THAT platform. Time, but mostly, all of OUR hard work is finally on our side and has been trending that way. The U.S. and government is waking up to the dangers of so called "food".

The Pyramid has been flipped upside-down along with pharma and lobbyists. Whether you agree with it or not does not matter. I don’t know to what degree it will be implemented. The important thing is that it has reached the highest levels of leadership, and if anything, it’s at least raising awareness. The decision to eat and do things healthy has always and will remain a personal responsibility. I see this as a big positive for our industry.

We are going to ride this wave, like Hermi. We will make him proud.

So, if you support this effort, give Hermi a like or share. I’m not promoting anything but awareness, and hopefully, 2 hrs. of someone’s precious time. The movie demonstrates better alternatives from the dangers of big AG and the chemical companies without actually naming names or pointing fingers, just a better means for good n healthy food. So good you can actually taste the elbow grease.

If you have anything to do with worms, composting, gardening, recycling food, organics, etc, understand…

A RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS!

This is YOUR movie.

The first image was the old way of making illustrations. All the rest may or may not be used or will be finalized later. Pics are not necessarily in order. So, don’t even try to figure out the plot. Uh Huh! I’m one of those people too.

SAFE VS UNSAFE WORM FOOD

What I want you to understand, first, about safe vs "unsafe" worm food is that it is all...

Subjective, Relative, as well as Warranted.

You won't understand those 3 descriptions unless you read the article. This is a topic that MUST be discussed as more and more people become vermicomposters.

There are many perspectives. I’ll address them as best I can because worm food can be almost anything (which is why this topic is extremely warranted) and will be debated for(ever) many years to come.

There's NO such thing as unsafe worm food, IF..

Worm farming professionals have a list of safe vs unsafe worm food. Foods to avoid feeding composting worms.

If you're like me, it will look a lot like the picture below. I have a lot to say about what I don't know in 2024. I hope it gives you hope and mental fortitude going into this new year. If you're doing great, please share and encourage others.

I'm no different than you, other than, I just spill my guts onto the canvas...sometimes. We all struggle with something. Turn your struggles into energy/passion/victory.

Challenges can be beautiful or ugly. Some you can't choose. So, embrace your challenges.

Is the Agricultural Industry Saturated? Do you feel as others do?

TIMING ISN'T EVERYTHING! Hard Work IS!

I think it's time for most people to hear this. I know there are a lot of people struggling so I wanted to write something I think will help a lot and give some perspective. I've posted SM articles but they get lost. So, please head over and read.

I was looking at my year end stats and wondered how many other websites, companies, educators, and regular ma & pa startups might think the industry is a bit crowded. Oh Yeah! I can't even breathe! 😬

I compared my stats to other websites as well, and it might be an interesting read if you're looking to get into something related to agriculture or anything natural or even homeopathic.

Don't get your hopes down. There's light at the end of the tunnel. 😁

If you're asking Is the Agricultural Industry Saturated? I hope this page gives you some insight.

STARTING AN OUTSIDE COMPOST PILE (BEFORE WINTER)

This was a recent email exchange from someone in South Dakota.

---Email---
South Dakota here. Have a couple questions on worms. I
continually have a composting pile close to the size of a dump truck load. It consists of piled up cow dung, some wood chips from bedding material, waste and dirty hay, and table scraps and occasional garden stuff.

The piles seem to do very well but I’m figuring adding some
worms would only speed up the process? I have seen worms and slugs in there but not “packed” into there like they could be. Could you confirm my thinking, and how many worms would you suggest and would it be too late for this year to get them in there?
Seems like I read they don’t go deep and it does get cold here,
Thanks.

My Response,
Yes, you are correct in that worms would definitely speed up the process. If you've had the pile for a while and have not added to it and kept it moist/watered (from the tap or rain) you should see indigenous species of worms, especially the Canadian Nightcrawlers. I have them here in Kansas.

I would not add any composting worms as they will likely die in your state/region (especially with winter coming). My suggestion would be to comb through and find worms, mostly toward the bottom or edges of the pile. If you do not have very many, such as, 10 per sq ft. You could purchase Canadians from a local supplier or online supplier. European Nightcrawlers are NOT the same. They are a composting worm.

Canadians are deep burrowing and will come up for food and take it back into their burrow. If warm enough in the pile, they will stay right there. I've seen many without burrows.
I have had many piles of goat manure/hay mixed with kitchen scraps.

Some pics and content of starting and attracting worms:

If you keep your compost pile in with the herd and cover it with a perforated tarp (to let rain water in) you can speed up the process slightly more.

This is a video of Canadian Nightcrawlers in my goat yard:

OVER 2,000 TOMATOES FROM 1 PLANT IN 2023.

Late Start, July 1st. Just Went Through a more-than-2-week drought with no watering from me or rain.

I've been on vacation and we've been through a severe drought in Kansas. NO watering but plenty of proper and prior mulching, worm/compost teaing, and slight pruning.

This is twice the size of my best tomato plant from the book Brown Thumb Green Thumb. 1,000+ tomatoes from that pic.

I have put most of my focus on this tomato plant to study and test the methodology of mulching with leaves, plus other methods I discuss. You MUST have the proper beneficial soil and watering methods. You must or should stay away from chlorinated water as much as possible.

My tomato plant would have been bigger with higher yields if I watered more and gave it more attention as discussed in my writings.

This year, due to certain circumstances, I've been forced to become a part, part time gardener. I hope this picture gives you some hope, excitement, and ideas for next year.

SOME WORM FARMERS MAY THINK THEIR CASTINGS ARE LIFELESS

Two great ways of testing your worm castings for microbes...

1. Use a microscope and ID any bacteria, nematodes, protozoa, and fungi, etc. You will most likely have more bacteria than any other microbe.

2. Culture (breed) your castings by brewing Aerated Worm Tea,
but do this correctly!

If you see microbes around the rim of the water table and the bag of castings, you have microbes in your castings. Your worm castings are not bad, but contain beneficial microbes and nutrients. How nutrient-dense the microbes are depends on the worm's diet.

The goal is to have nutrient-dense microbes, but if your purpose is to get the right microbes into your soil, revive dirt/soil, or feed your plants, then that is what matters.

The microbes will do the rest. You have good worm castings so keep feeding your worms and keep brewing.
