🏛️Some roofs come with more history than others.
We just wrapped a new roof in Graham, TX, the old First Christian Church, built in 1917 at the corner of Second and Elm.
The congregation dates back to 1878. For their first eleven years they had no building at all and met in homes and the county courthouse. Before the church had a baptistry, baptisms were held at "the Rock Hole" on Salt Creek, and in winter the men would bring axes and saws to break the ice first.
In 1916 the congregation voted to build the church you see here. In 1959 they voted again, this time on whether to replace it, and chose to stay. They spent the next seven years remodeling, finishing with a stained glass restoration in 1967.
Step inside and you see why they stayed. A domed sanctuary, a sweeping curved balcony, the original chandelier, and a stained glass skylight at the top of the dome that's been catching Texas sun for over a century.
That ceiling is exactly why the roof matters. Our scope:
* Impact resistant shingles on the sloped sections, built for North Texas hail
* TPO membrane in the gutter troughs behind the parapet walls, where all the water collects and drains
* TPO run up underneath the base of the shingles, so water sheds from shingle to membrane to scupper with nowhere to get in
That tie-in is the detail nobody sees from the street, and it's the one that keeps a 109-year-old plaster dome dry.
A big thank you to Ruby Jernigan, Realtor with Agape & Associates for trusting us with a building that means this much to Graham. That trust isn't something we take lightly.

And thank you to local historian Dorman Holub and Young County TXGenWeb for keeping this building's story alive, and to Joe B. Friedel and R.V. Tidwell, who wrote the church history it draws from.
We’re proud to be a small part of this one.
