There’s one simple step that can save you a lot of time, money, and guesswork later on, and that’s photographing what’s behind your walls before the drywall goes up.

That means taking clear photos of plumbing, electrical wiring, studs, and blocking, which can be incredibly helpful when you’re ready to hang a television, install cabinets, make repairs, put in a home theatre system, or complete a future renovation.

At Agren Construction, this is something we recommend to our customers whenever possible. And if they don’t have time to take the photos themselves, they can ask a member of our crew—and we’re always happy to help.

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is assuming they can hang anything on drywall with a standard screw or nail.

While drywall is surprisingly strong for everyday use, it isn't designed to support heavy weight this way.

For lightweight pictures, a simple picture hanger is usually enough. But once you're hanging mirrors, floating shelves, large TVs, or heavy artwork, you'll want to fasten into a wall stud behind the drywall or use the correct drywall anchor.

And using the wrong hardware can cause the item to pull out of the wall, leaving behind large holes and expensive repairs. Taking a few extra minutes to choose the right anchor—or finding a stud first—can save you a lot of frustration and help keep your walls looking great for years to come.
