Behind every small business is a lot of hard work—and sometimes a very enthusiastic little helper! We love making this a family adventure! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and supported us the other day at Sugarloaf Gardens!

Today’s pond project came with a surprise we didn’t see coming. After hauling in all the stone and getting the excavator set up, we marked out our dig lines and got to work, only to hit solid bedrock just a few inches down. Rather than fight it with the bucket, we brought in a rental excavator equipped with a jackhammer attachment, and made quick work of breaking through the ledge. What could have slowed us down for days instead turned into an afternoon project.

Next up, we’ll be laying down a bed of sand to protect the liner from any sharp edges left behind by the rock. This pond is shaping up to be something special: an 8x11 footprint with a long, dramatic waterfall, a Japanese-style bridge crossing, a patio that leads right to the water’s edge, and underwater lighting to bring it all to life after dark.

Feeding the koi on our customers pond while they are away. This pond needs a little work to get the water quality back under control. There are so many beautiful koi in here! We’re going to install more media in the biofilter and run additional aeration for oxygen and circulation. The water should clear up in a week or two.

Our baby koi are getting hungry!

If you look really close you can see them chomping up the little pieces of shrimp.

Amherst pond update 🐟

We just wrapped up this 8x11 pond in Amherst today. Our clients are over the moon! This one is really interesting. We worked with some different rock this time than our usual selection and it allowed us to do some really cool things with the waterfall. The middle falls is my favorite, what’s yours?

Baby fish update!!! 🐠 More little ones have hatched than we ever imagined! They are tiny and translucent right now but they will begin to develop color and patterns between 3-6 week! Getting a headcount for these little guys would be near impossible at the moment but as they grow we will continue to post updates! We are so excited!

ITS HAPPENING! 🥚👀 The first few Koi eggs are officially hatching! We need your help to guess our final headcount. How many little ones do you think we’ll have by the time they’re all done?

PSA: The little floating green plants in the pond photo are called water chestnut and while delicious they are dangerous to grow in your pond.

We were in Easthampton on Thursday for a pond cleaning and discovered a ton of these seed pods. These seeds are so sharp they pierced through our gloves while trying to pick them out. Luckily, we were able to remove them before they damaged the liner but all it takes is one step on these seeds the wrong way and you’ve got a massive leak.
