We've been designing/studying/planning/renovating/restoring libraries for 30 years now. Recently we reached the milestone of completing projects for 100 of them. In this video we show 24 of them while Principal Emeritus/Founder J. Stewart Roberts and Principal Philip O'Brien discuss the details and joys of working on these very special buildings that positively impact communities for generations.

Every other month one of our staff chooses a book to add to our architectural resource library. They present the book at a luncheon in our office and talk about some of the book's highlights and takeaways.
This month our Designer Amy chose "100 Women (architects in practice)" and shared images and facts about some amazing architects that have created beautiful and unique buildings across the globe. This is a great book for anyone wishing to learn more about female architects, and to discover designs and designers that can inspire us all.

Our Designer Ruth recently took a trip to Michigan and toured Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion House. It’s a prototype for a mass-produced modular home conceived in 1920 and first built in 1945. It had a circular plan that allowed water and air to flow into the space from a central vent and drain out through the bottom. It was never produced however and the only one in existence is currently at the Henry Ford Museum.

Our adventurous designer Ashley recently went to Peru to hike The Salkantay Trek. This is a 40 mile hike in the Peruvian Andes that traverses up and over the 15,000ft pass, through coffee and avocado farms, and descends into the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

Our Marketing Manager Will recently visited Saratoga Springs, NY. It is a beautiful town with lots of history. We don't design many homes, but we appreciate beautiful and unique architecture of all types. And it's fascinating to see how the styles change as you go from Boston to Western MA and then into NY.
Saratoga Springs is filled with amazing late 19th century and early 20th century houses — many designed by Robert Newton Brezee (1851–1929). Here are a few of them.

Our Principals Phil O'Brien and Jeff Davis enjoyed attending the Wagdy Anis Symposium on Building Science 2026 last week — honoring the legacy of Wagdy Anis FAIA and his enduring impact on high-performance enclosure design. They found it very informative. It was presented by the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) and the Building Enclosure Council (BEC-Boston).

This year’s theme, Off-Site Construction of the Building Enclosure: Precision, Performance, and Scalability, focused on the role of prefabricated and modular enclosure systems in meeting increasingly rigorous energy, durability, and climate performance goals. As codes such as the Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code continue to evolve, off-site construction offers new opportunities for improved quality control, airtightness, thermal performance, and construction efficiency.
