Plants are like humans too much stress is not a good thing.
The closer we can replicate nature and, the nature of the plant, the better the results. There are some forces out of our control. The ones we can control maybe enough to tip the scales in our favor..

Disease is the result. It's magnified by stress.

Stressors
Soil:
Acidic= slowed nutrient uptake
compacted= suffocating grasses deep root system
rocky= higher soil temperature, less soil
Location:
Surrounded by disease filled lawns
Mowing:
Companies tracking disease from lawn to lawn
Inadequate height for Season
Possible Improper timing and technique

2 can be too many….

Short-term fix, Disease Control chemical
Long-term fix, All Natural remedies
Fix the environment not the plant.

When a plant doesn't flourish you fix environment not the plant!
The balance shifted from plants to disease . Over the years soil nutrients is depleted and plants have become crowded, creating an ideal micro environment for disease to flourish. Cultivation is key, Disease Control will work but only up to point.

Lost a lot of boxwoods a couple years back because of this devastating disease. Not these. The disease itself may not kill a plant but when combined with multiple other problems(insects, poor soil, location) it will be the final straw.

Is it soup yet?
Only one or two weeks of damage from broken sprinkler. Casualties would have increased if left unchecked and was able to sneak into the boxwoods. Clay soil and heavy rains didn't help. But..
• A dash of Sprinkler repair
• A pinch of aeration
• A splash of soil conditioning.
• A peck of transplanting
• A drop of nutrients
• A cup of time (³ Seasons)
*Note: could have used another peck of transplanting. Established ground cover grows quick, it will be filled as soon as it comes back in the Spring.

A garden grows best in the shadow of a gardener.

Deer have eat too!! Although it's not usually the reason we plant trees. Sucker shoots are good for the deer bad for the tree. Deer spread pests through foraging.
Tearing leaves and stems rolling out the red carpet for bugs and disease. Suckers can be a sign of previous pest problems. Years of neglect and suckers draining shrubs energy adds to under development. Planting depth, Hill, soil, suckers, are also contributors. I was informed tree isn't much bigger and when was planted 10 years ago. It will be in my shadow from here on out. Receiving proper nutrients, pruning, and pest control it can now focus its energy on growing. The deer will find another food source.

Shrubs stunted and becoming transparent from nutrient deficiencies which is a calling card for bugs and disease to finish it off. Proper timing and techniques of corrective pruning, sanitation methods, amending soil, nutrients and insect control. These all work hand-in-hand.

1. Reducing initial problems (soil nutrient deficiencies, hygiene and location) by strengthening plants to recover and minimize possibly eliminate re-infestation.
2. Corrective pruning, removing problematic branches, spark new growth where needed and maintain Aesthetics.
3. Removing pest problems( insects, disease and weeds) by most efficient or preferred method organic, chemical or mechanical, and in some cases a combination.

Winter Halo
They contain millions of SIX-SIDED ice crystals.
According to folklore, "A ring around the moon means bad weather, rain, or other foul atmospheric conditions are on the way. Weather Channel says 90% chance of rain tomorrow!!! This point I would believe the moon over any Weather Channel.

If you choose to incorporate one of these phenomena into magic, consider using it in preparation for oncoming negative influences.

A lunar halo happens when moonlight is refracted through ice particles in the earth's atmosphere.

Rubbing branches, rain Sprouts, suckers are Calling cards for bugs and disease. Easily seen when defoliated, during early winter/late winter pruning. Epicormic sprouts ( mid tree or shrub growth) and suckers can be a sign of insects already present. It's a defense mechanism of the tree as it fights to survive. It'll concentrate its energy closer to the trunk and or root. Must keep a closer eye on it next year.

Mine bloomed a couple days before the snow. What flower do you I think it looks like?? Frost flower, when the weather conditions are perfect, it is formed when thin layers of ice are extruded from long-stemmed plants in autumn or early winter. The thin layers of ice are often formed into exquisite patterns that curl into "petals" that resemble flowers

Very visible this time of year.
Best time to get a handle on them with little collateral damage to beneficials. In good conditions predatory insects control their population.
Applications can be done anytime temperature is above freezing.

Common misconception
Bugs don't die in the winter they just become less of a nuisance, going dormant waiting to explode in the spring.

There are multiple reasons for plant stress which is a calling card for bugs and disease to finish off the plant. Sometimes they need a nudge to bring the balance back.
