It’s always an honor to work in a school district where several of our “Deco children” currently attend school.

Walker Early Learning Center was originally constructed in 1957 and has undergone two additions/renovations since, but much of the facility has remained largely untouched for nearly forty years. The current renovation and addition project for Walker Early Learning Center has been in development for several years, and it is exciting to finally see work beginning on site. If you have been around the Wayne County area recently, you may have already noticed the construction trailer behind the school and the early phases of construction underway. We’re excited to see this project really spring into action over summer break.

The project will include a refreshed exterior entrance, reworked parent pick-up roadways that better utilize the covered walkway at the front of the school, a new indoor playroom, upgraded lighting and HVAC systems, and updated finishes throughout the facility.

What makes this project especially unique — and something we believe can serve as a model for school districts across the state — is the concept of embedded learning through design. Each hallway and major area of the school has been designed around a different biome. Custom wall graphics have been thoughtfully created specifically for this project to showcase animals, shown to scale, that inhabit each biome, complete with measurement markers and educational facts alongside them. Students will be able to stand beside the animals and better understand their true size and scale in an engaging, hands-on way.

With a former elementary school teacher among Deco’s ownership and a former school superintendent as part of our team, it is our hope that this project will inspire and engage the district’s youngest learners from the moment they walk through the doors — creating opportunities for passive learning throughout their beautifully renovated school environment.

AJ Lloyd/Provalus Update:

We have been advised of a little more red tape that must be addressed before we are able to upload plans for bidding. The good news: it’s very minor in nature, especially compared to what has already been accomplished. We are actively working now to get through it and hope to be bidding in a handful of weeks.

More soon.

Throwback Thursday to the newly constructed Pulaski County Cooperative Extension Office.

We were proud to have the opportunity to work right here in Pulaski County on this 11,412 SF facility, designed to serve the community for years to come. The building offers a welcoming, approachable presence, with a clear and inviting public entry that helps visitors easily access services and feel comfortable engaging with staff.

Inside, the layout supports flexibility and collaboration, providing adaptable spaces for a wide range of educational programs and community needs. The design also reflects a strong commitment to stewardship, incorporating durable and efficient materials and systems that support long-term sustainability. An overall design goal was for the facility to balance functionality and approachability with a clean, professional aesthetic... and we think it does just that, and fits naturally within the Pulaski County community it serves.

“All good things come to those who wait.”

The AJ Lloyd project coming to the City of Monticello, Kentucky is going out to bid! We are working with Codell now to finalize paperwork. Prospective bidders should expect to see plans hosted on Lynn Blueprint’s online planroom in the next 3-4 business days. Bidders please note that there are 2 projects here: AJ Lloyd (front building) and Provalus (back building). Don’t forget to bid both!

The redevelopment of the Historic Wayne County High School (AJ Lloyd) will include an open-air park and event venue designed to preserve the character and bones of the original WPA-era building at the front of the site. The rear building will serve as a regional hub for Provalus, an IT company that has already brought many jobs and opportunities to the area.

We are proud of the unity, collaboration, and coordinated effort shown by the community and local leadership in making this project possible. It is exciting to see ideas come to life and historic structures revitalized to be enjoyed once again by future generations.

Throwback Thursday — a look back at this Home2 Suites hotel project in the Beaumont Development in Lexington.

This 4-story, 56,826 SF hotel features 86 guest rooms and was designed to complement the growing development while meeting the standards of the Home2 Suites brand.

Throughout the process, our team worked through several exterior façade adjustments to satisfy the requirements of the local development board while maintaining the overall vision and character of the project.

Projects like this are a reminder that thoughtful collaboration and flexibility are key parts of successful design.

There are park restrooms… and then there are PARK RESTROOMS!!!!!😎

Huge thanks to the City of Berea for trusting us to design the latter…Because even restrooms deserve a little architectural flair.

Throwback Thursday to Conley Bottom Resort in Monticello, Kentucky — a place especially near and dear to our hearts. Our President, Derek Phillips, worked at Conley Bottom as a dockhand at just 15 years old, riding his four-wheeler to work before he was even old enough to have a driver’s license.

When Conley Bottom experienced a devastating fire in late spring 2019, we were honored to help with the rebuilding plans. The new facility brought a large ship store — fully stocked with apparel, lake gear, snacks, beverages (including Kentucky favorite Ale-8-One), soft-serve ice cream, and pizza — while also creating space for the highly sought-after Boat House restaurant.

Both are now open for the season (and yes, we’ve already visited both). If you haven’t stopped by yet, we’d definitely recommend adding this Kentucky gem to your summer bucket list.

We are incredibly proud to have served the Clinton County School District in the design of their BRAND NEW high school.

What makes this project especially unique is the preservation of the existing gymnasium — a space filled with memories and deep meaning for the community — while the remainder of the facility will be demolished and reconstructed around it.

New school buildings are once-in-a-generation projects, and we know this facility will have a lasting impact on students, teachers, staff, and the entire community for years to come.

We applaud the district leadership and school board for their vision, commitment, and investment in the future of their students. We are honored to be part of making this dream a reality.

Construction is set to begin this summer... Go Bulldogs!

Throwback Thursday— Several years ago, a potential client approached us with a bold vision for a 1-million-square-foot industrial development in a small town.

We poured ourselves into the project— master planning, modeling buildings, drone mapping, renderings, animations— long nights fueled by excitement and the belief that this development could truly change a community.

And it did.

The project attracted a major tenant, became a thriving industrial campus, created jobs, and sparked growth all around it. Gas stations, restaurants, and businesses followed. A big vision became reality.

While we ultimately were not the architect-of-record on the finished project, we’re still proud of the role we played in helping bring the idea to life. That experience reminded us that architecture is about more than credit or recognition. It’s about helping people push communities forward, turning vision into reality, and creating places that improve lives.

We’re grateful for clients and communities bold enough to dream big- and honored to help bring those dreams to life.

Our Throwback Thursday post last week reminded us that we never shared our newest project with First Christian Church, Monticello.

Over the past several years, we’ve been working behind the scenes to design both an addition and sanctuary renovation for the church. The sanctuary renovation is now fully complete, and the addition is currently under construction with completion anticipated in Fall 2026.

The sanctuary renovation expanded the worship space to increase seating capacity while transitioning from traditional pew seating to theater-style chairs for improved flexibility and comfort. A new glass railing was also added at the balcony to improve sight lines for guests seated in that area, while new carpet throughout the sanctuary refreshed the entire space.

The addition will provide a covered drop-off area, much-needed classroom and flexible-use spaces, an elevator for improved accessibility, and new outdoor patio space for gathering and fellowship.

We’re grateful to continue partnering with the church as this exciting project takes shape.
