Got a customer call today who saw my post in December about burned receptacles. She experienced something similar and knew to call right away.
After looking at the burnt receptacle, I realized the wires were damaged beyond repair. I disconnected, capped wires, and covered it, so that the plug could no longer be used. Continued use of this receptacle could have resulted in a possible fire.

Have you ever touched your appliances and felt a little shock? It could be an indication of improper grounding or lose connection to ground. Which is fairly common in older homes. This image is prime example, you can see 112volts from the faucet to the drain.

If after using a space heater, you discover that the plug is starting to look burnt and/or melted, what does this mean? Is it a problem with the heater? Usually, not.
