This recent project took us into the mudroom and pantry, two smaller rooms where every bit of storage counts. Custom cabinetry allowed us to work with each room’s footprint and give everyday items a proper place.

Back in the very loud van, this time heading to another job to take care of a few final punch-list items.

It’s a basement man cave with a custom liquor storage piece we built. Most of the work is done, so I’m going back to clean up the last few details.

I’ll get some footage while I’m there and show you around once everything is finished. Stay tuned for the reveal.

Most people see a box beam installed and assume it’s one solid piece of timber. It isn’t.

Real wood boards are joined around a hollow center, keeping the weight down while giving you the same solid wood look. They can add detail to a ceiling, wrap an existing structural beam, or conceal wiring and other elements.

Each one is made to order, with your choice of wood, size, texture, and finish.

Next up in our Installed Custom Cabinetry Tour, a sitting area just off the bedroom, designed by MacKenzie Design in Atlanta.

Hard maple is a good choice when you want the wood to feel clean and quiet rather than busy.

This top is built in edge grain at 2 inches thick. The straight grain keeps the look simple, while the extra thickness gives it a solid presence in the kitchen.

The 1/4-inch round-over takes the sharp corner off without adding a decorative profile. Rubio Monocoat leaves the surface with a natural, low-sheen finish that still feels like wood.
