A little backsplash to bring it all together! I'll let him say "you were right" on his own time. 🤭

Hubby would definitely prefer if I mopped. 🥲

Where does your phone charge at night? Can you open the closet door beside your nightstand? Where will you plug in the lamp next to your favorite chair?

These are the kinds of questions worth bringing to a walkthrough while your walls are still open.

Once the framing is up, you can stand inside the rooms you’ve been studying on paper and imagine how you’ll actually use them. Walk through with your builder and think about:

☕ Your morning routine. Outlets for bedside charging, bathroom tools, and the coffee setup you use every day.

🛋️ Your furniture. Bed and sofa dimensions, room to move around them, door swings, and TV placement.

💡 Your lighting. Where you’ll read, cook, get ready, and want switches within reach.

🖼️ What’s going on the walls. Support for planned shelving, curtain rods, mirrors, and mounted TVs.

🔊 What you’ll hear. Whether sound-reducing insulation makes sense between bedrooms, living spaces, or a home office.

🔌 What you might want later. Wiring or pathways for speakers, cameras, internet, and future upgrades.

Some of these decisions need to happen before framing, but a thoughtful walkthrough helps confirm the plan and identify questions before rough-ins are finished and drywall goes up.

The goal is to picture more than where everything goes. It’s to picture what it will feel like to live there, from the first light you turn on to the last door you close.

We believe that where your sink belongs has less to do with trends and more to do with how you actually live in your kitchen.

If you naturally keep your counters tidy, have a large enough island that the sink won’t take over and love being in the middle of everything while cooking, hosting and cleaning, an island sink could be perfect for you. It allows you to face your family and guests instead of turning your back on the room.

But if you tend to let dishes collect, want one large, uninterrupted surface for prepping and serving or have a smaller island, you may prefer to keep the sink along the perimeter. And if your kitchen has an incredible view, placing the sink beneath that window might make doing dishes a whole lot more enjoyable.

You’ll also want to think about your overall workflow. Where are the dishwasher, trash, range and refrigerator? The sink should make moving through the kitchen easier, not send you back and forth across the room.

There isn’t one right answer. The best placement depends on the kitchen, the size of the island and the family living in it.

Which would you choose: sink in the island or no sink? 👇
