flagstone. laid flat and even,
each piece its own shape,
fitted together like they were always meant to be here.

follow it to the wall.
stacked slate rising clean beside it —
the kind of craftsmanship that doesn’t ask for your attention.
it just has it.

then the stairs.
dark wood. wide treads.
iron between the posts,
simple and sure.

and the color.
deep red coleus spilling over the edge of the wall,
pink blooms tucked in at the base,
green layered behind it all
the way back to the treeline.

nothing here is competing.
everything is contributing.

this is what it looks like
when a yard stops being a yard
and becomes a place.
